A perfect way to solve the tank shortage would be to have bosses give a debuff that requires 2 tanks for a fight... No, wait a minute....

Non sarcastically, the only viable solution to this problem is to allow most all content 1 tank, 2 heals, 5 dps.
If CT didn't force a group of 2 tanks 2 healers 4 DD jobs queue times for DD classes would be cut drastically.

I love the paladin AF armor, and I have both a mogaxe and mogsword ready should I get to 50 with warrior or paladin, but though I have both above 30, I don't use them in Duty Finder or Duty Roulette. Mostly because of how critical people are of tanks. It's worse now with DR because most of the time you get 50s who just want to run through as quickly as possible because they just want their tomes.

tl ; dr If people were nicer to tanks, nicer to new players, nicer to everyone really, you might get more "would be" tanks and healers to put themselves out there. There are tanks and healers out there but the rude players make them stick with their own FC/LS/static.

    A few reasons:
    - Most of the time, tanks want dungeon drops that aren't for tanks. For example, I'd want Vortex Ring of Healing over Vortex Ring of Fending. Unless I know I can get this as a tank, chances are I won't want to queue as a tank.
    - Everyone has different play styles - the moment one tank cannot adjust to a group's strat, he's going to get vitriol. A lot of it.
    - Due to said vitriol above, tanks would rather tank for groups of friends, FC, or LS. There's no real point using DF.

I do enjoy DF however. I'd usually do Duty Roulette as a tank, for the extra adventurer in need bonus.

    Wow, so difficult.
DPS also have to dodge a lot more, and not only know their rotation, but rely on the tank to set up proper postions (melee dps) or not pull out or range or LoS (ranged/caster dps). They have support abilities they should use to take load off of healers and tanks.

People like you who act like DPS roles are a walk in the park are a significant part of the problem: why there are so many terrible dps players.

I went from DPS and healing roles to tanking and it is 1000x less stressful and less work to me. Defensive cooldown rotations are actually easier than 99% of all dps rotations sans the lowest-levels of them. The only difficult parts I found were late endgame with tank swapping or stun/silence duties, and not even that is particularly hard once you macro it out. Some duties are a complete joke as a tank, like Titan HM, where they are a terror on DPS and healers.

My argument is thusly that it is BS that people act like there's so much difficulty in tanking and people are terrified of doing it, when it's actually being played up and they should actually be terrified of dps (twitch game) and healer (micro-management) roles.

I tank a lot more than anything else these days because it queues instantly and I feel a lot more comfortable doing it over the hectic of dps or healing.

Still sounds like part of their job is done by tanks. I mean by this you're basically saying if the tank doesn't do his job for the DPS, they end up not doing much damage...or can't play their jobs right (doing damage?). So...yeah, tank still has to do more of the work.

Wouldn't it better to give a DD class a tank job?
This way the players only need to do the job quests, learn a bit the mechanic and are ready to tank.

    People like me, eh?

Well, since you want to get to know me so well, I'll go ahead and inform you that I've played multiple DPS jobs at 50 as well as my tank, and have done endgamey-wamey things with them. It -is- a walk in the park.

I play all roles and I have to say, that DPS is less worrisome. As a DPS, I just have to take care of myself and not die while repeating a rotation. As a tank, I have to worry about positioning, keeping strong hate before someone pulls and try to dodge/ take as few damage points as I can. As a healer, I have to watch what people are doing and react to HP drops and status bars while dodging whatever the enemies throw.

Now for tank, skills have to be on the spot or they can get hit by something nasty. As a healer, you have to be on it with the heals or tank WILL die. For DPS, you can mess up and still recover. You can mess up your rotation and NO ONE will see it. Unless someone has a parser and calls you out on it

The reason there are so few tanks is other peoples attitude. I've failed at AK so many times cause people couldn't get past the wall. When I got with a group in DR, finally got past it. I didn't know where to position the 3rd boss, so I did the best I could, faced away from party into a corner. I got raged on so bad because I didn't know where to put the boss cause that was my first time there. That is why there are so few of us, cause we're tired up putting up with everybodies crap.
