Yes, that's human nature. We mostly do things that benefit us. Some players can find enjoyment chatting with friends, helping out, etc. Those are the same type of players that can make their own fun and can do it in any game they play.I'm prepared...are you? And who says something has to have a personal gain in order to be fun? I help people in my linkshell all the time with something that nets me little reward. That is kinda what an mmo is all about, but yet many people treat mmos as an isolated experience.
It is a difference between camps of people in mmos, and a big distinction I feel between those who treat mmos like oldschool mmos and those who treat mmo no different then offline games.
There is a load of stuff I have never done. I am still low reputation level 1 on all beast tribes. I have never done a hardmode dungeon. I have completed only the mainstory quest to unlock stuff so I have a ton of side quest left. I have over 80% of achievements still unachieved, I have not capped my chocobo. My crafts are not all leveled.I have never fished in XIV:ARR. But the real question is why would I take the time to do any of these. What does an achievement get me? What does a chocobo get me when I have a guild I play with? Why should I level a job that is based around the economy when Yoshida himself said it was his intent to kill off the economy? Why should I spend weeks doing dailys when the only reward is a vanity mount which gives me nothing more then my free chocobo? Why should I do a dungeon for Ilvl55-60gear when I am beating turn 5 and extreme and capping myth in 2days?
The issue is negated content and vanity content. Once content is meaningless I see no reason to even consider it valid which is how a huge segment of the game thinks as well. This is why WoW after so many expansions many people still say the game has a massive lack of content. It is why XIV has now and probably will always have a lack of content. 2.2 is negating crystal towers and probably extreme mode primals. 2.1 negated all hard mode dungeons(including the ones that were released in 2.1). The vanity system adds nothing to the game for me. I will not do old content for vanity purposes like Yoshida keeps saying people will do. Having a title "Honest Gillonaire" Next to my name will not make me do more leves to get it.
Many will disagree with me. But vanity, titles with no benefit, and meaningless trophies to me and many others are a 100% waste of time, that is not why I play mmos. I understand that a whole other camp will say well that is part of the game I am choosing to not do content. But to me and many other that is not content at all.
SE should tie content together to make it last for years, not purposely design it to be thrown away every 3 months.
your friend was being polite, knowing you still held interest in the game.
At this point you're arguing semantics. Boring content=/=no content
Call us content locusts because we refuse to continue to pay for and play a boring repetitive GAME. Not all of us are completionist. Things like max levels on all jobs, useless chocobo companions, and useless achievements have very little weight or staying power when I've completed the hardest content and geared my desired class in some of the best gear. Fact is the game is lacking meaningful content. The reason you rarely see much dissention in the public forums on any of the fan sites because most people quit in silence. They may return during next version update or they may not. It's wait and see.
What completionists and hardcore fans fail to understand is if Yoshi and Co continues this development cycle it will spell certain ruin for this game. I'm not going to go into all what the game needs, but if the devs made half the crap you listed to your friend meaningful and useful in game they'd probably have more people playing still; your friend included.

The biggest problem in this forum right now is the lack of reading comprehension.DISCLAIMER
This is not a thread to insult one person’s play style preferences over another. The term “content locust” was used for the sake of symbolism only. It is a familiar term we can relate to that describes a particular demographic in a relatively non-derogatory way. My friend I’m about to describe knows he’s a content locust, and is VERY good at it….on with the story…
I wonder how many people that say a game is repetitive realize that the majority of games, even dating back to the old school MMOs, were filled with repetition... And forget it since they were younger and star struck by this new wonderful idea...
The game is not boring to me at all. Human nature is to take not give btw. Also, why do people feel they need a reward for everything to make something worth it? Everything I do in this game is purely for the enjoyment, I do not care for the carrot on the stick.

Agreed with this, the game will never be content rich if they keep releasing new content to make previous content obsolete. Killing the economy also makes the game very dull. I also could care less about vanity, personal housing could really give me something to keep busy, but who knows if that will ever happen.
Do you have 999,999,999 gil? No, then you still have stuff to do!
I get that there's lots more things to do, but if you find those things boring, it's not enough to keep you playing.
I have not done coil yet, I have no interest in doing coil yet. I have not done EX primals because people a jerks about it and I don't feel like being yelled at because I'm not experienced. I don't want to level all the classes or jobs. When I play a MMO, I pick one class and I perfect my playing of that class. Switching all around to different classes just throws me off.
It's not about the game lacking content, it's about the game lacking content that I find fun to participate in. Personally, I'm into questing and leveling. I will constantly make new chars just to run through all of the quests again. And even though I've done them all 100 times, I still get enjoyment out of it because I like questing! I like gaining levels! I like checking to see what my next armor upgrade is and being able to farm for it, buy it, earn it from quests and not spend months running the same content just to get one piece.
Raise the level cap and throw in a few hundred side quests and I'll be logged on all day, erry day. Right now I'm looking around at other mmos to play...
okay, but I also said it was boring.
I have always said to people this game doesn't lack content, it lacks content they want to do.
How to fix that? There is no way to fix that.
No matter what they add, no matter what they think of, someone will always not like it. So if the people who feel bored would stop to think, they would realize that even if they put exactly what YOU want in the game, then YOU would be happy, but a majority would not be.
Just please stop saying there is no content.
