I will probably try archer/bard next. I have very limited play time, so I don't want to swap characters too much.I understand your reservations on going tank but with how things are at up with the duty finder system people in your group can get a new tank most of the time if you had to drop. Dps queues can be horrible. Bard is also a good idea if you want to play a dps. They are easy to play, mobile, and not so punishing if you mess up your rotations. They are also well loved in end game content.
Edit:
Read up where you said you are enjoying arcanist. It's a really fun class. I enjoy scholar and in lower level dungeons you can literally put yourself on follow and have your fairy auto heal everyone. Good luck in your travels!
The nature of the game almost requires you to level multiple classes, so it's never a waste of time. You're always going to need a second class at 15 to unlock any job. You're gong to want certain cross class skills. For instance, on BRD you're going to want Internal Release from PGL and Blood For Blood from LNC. On WAR you'll want Flash from GLA. On SMN you'll want Swiftcast from THM and Quelling Strikes and Raging Strikes from ARC. These are just brief examples.
It's always a good idea to level up many classes. The skills come in handy.
Dps actually has the longest wait time for dungeon que. But bard is by far the easiest to level so far, for me anyway. The mechanics are pretty straightforward. You will need pugilist to level 15. And I would suggest taking lancer to level 22 for the spell that regenerates tp...so you can safely over spam "hard knock"
Later on in the game, you'll need to get Blood for Blood (LNC 34) as well, so don't just stop at 22...Dps actually has the longest wait time for dungeon que. You can only use 3 cross skills as a job. And I don't know which ones they will allow yet...since I'm 5 levels away from equipping it. So it may or may not matter about lvl 34 lancer skill ^^
It depends on your level. You can equip a cross-class skill every 10 levels as a job, up to a maximum of 5 cross-class skills at 50.
It might be just the arcanist that's limited then. I was pretty disappointed with that. All that work and I can only use 3 cross skills ...level 40![]()
Actually, by level 50, you can use five cross class skills with your Job crystal equipped - without it you can use ten (because the Job crystal replaces five cross class slots with it's own Job abilities).
Incidentally, each ability shows what classes/Jobs can equip it on their ability description so you have a fair idea what you can use. And a Job can only use abilities from two other classes besides it's base class so there is that as well.
Also it should be noted every time you learn an ability it doesn't always automatically add it to the hotbar - meaning you have to set the ability manually by opening up the Actions and Traits menu (this will also tell you how many cross class slots you have available) and then dragging it to the hotbar. Hence this might trick people into thinking they have less cross class slots than they actually do.

Scholar has 9 available cross skills (3 from THM, 6 from CNJ), Summoner has 6 (3 from THM, 3 from ARC).
I totally understand what all of you are saying, and that it may be different at level 50.
But you must realize what it reads like to a new person just starting out? (This is the new person help section after all)
They're gonna be thinking they can equip those slots right away at lvl 30. And I don't count the job skills since those belong to the class you have equipped.
So say you're in game... And you just acquired your job stone at level 33... You have gained your first job class skill with and additional 3 slots remaining that you can equip skills from other classes.
Lmao all of you make excellent salesmen, but don't be mislead.
There are actually just 3 slots that can be filled when you first equip your job...yes they are interchangeable, and yes there are several to pick from.
*head desk* but meh ...no you can't use them all at the same time.
That's all I was saying![]()
