on topic: In my opinion, BLM is the job for you. It is easy to use, and in the long run can be a powerful mage, with a few CC magic to help on rough situations.

off topic: Have you tried Free To Play MMOs? There are a few easy going games out there. Think about that after you play a little. Because paying $13-$15 monthly to play a little sometimes is rough, depending on the income. But other than that, FFXIV is extremely casual friendly in almost every aspect of the game. I play around 1-3 hours daily, if able, mostly solo, and I have yet to find a wall, content wise.

    Welcome to Eorzea!

    Thank you!

I tried SWKOTOR free mmo, played for about a month, and hated it. I have a good job, and I can certainly spare 15 bucks a month or whatever the price is. The thing that attracted to me to this game is the way the class/job system works. I like the idea that I have to level a class to 30, and a sub class to 15 to unlock my main advanced class.

    Another question.

Say I level an arcanist to level 30, and whatever the summoners other subclass is to 15, and then I level the summoner to level 50.

Would I have access to a level 46 arcanist spell such as miasma II or would I need to level my arcanist to level 46 as well ?

It will always be your ACN getting the experience points, the SMN is just a modifier for the ACN class which is equipped to your character like a weapon or piece of armour.

Currently, I think I'm going to try warrior, bard, black mage. Then make my decision after that. My question is, what level should I play until to base my decision. I have limited play time, so I don't want it to be too high. I'm thinking in the 10-15 range.

Look around for a family friendly Free Company or Linkshell to join. You're going to want to be able to find groups that are understanding about it if you need to suddenly AFK for a little while, and that's more likely if you can talk to people in advance and they know that your home situation sometimes requires that. I've done FC dungeon runs where we occasionally stop for a little while because someone's kid just woke up, and everyone's fine with that, but in random groups there's a greater likelihood of the other players getting pissed off by it.

Just about any class can handle solo content, and you can spend the majority of your time solo, but as Bixby mentioned, there are also quite a few required dungeons and trials where you'll need a group. People generally recommend finding a friendly FC as a worthwhile move for any new player, but I think it's especially important to those like yourself whose family life may make your game time erratic. A good FC should be able to help you get through the required dungeons so you can advance through the game. And in return, you can help them do the same.

Thank you for the advice! Everyone has been so helpful so far, I really appreciate it. By the way does everyone have the 1000 character limit on their posts? It's pretty annoying...

The character limit doesn't apply to edits. Anyone you see with large posts has edited to add the text over 1000.

That's good to know. I tried to quote some posts, and they were for sure over 1000 characters. I was thinking there was a limit for new players or something lol.
