I'm amused by all of the people in this thread saying that there are hardly any Roe NPC's. Have you guys BEEN to Limsa lately? There's a whole nation of mostly Roes. I guess you have a point with the main scenario. None of the Archons (in 2.x at least) are Roe. Merlwyb is probably the only significant Roe NPC that isn't a Tradesman or Privateer. The WAR NPC you learn your skills from is a Hellsguard. It is mentioned in that chain that few of them come down from the mountains. It's been a while since I played around with the character creator, but I seem to remember the M Roes being fairly generic.

I play a M Roe and I too have noticed a ton of Roe NPCs, not only in Limsa Lominsa, but all across. I do tend to notice that the race is a minority among players.

But they are conspicuously rare in Gridania. On the other hand, there aren't that many elezen NPCs in Ul'dah and Limsa Lominsa, either.

Sorry roe fans, but the answer to the low pop is because roe as a race doesn't fit ur usual MMO BIG GUY RACE which are ALL MUSCLE BUT NO BRAINS stereotype especially when roe are depicted as an intelligent brawny race!

Mostly true. However, the MRD NPC and his sister are both Seawolves. The WAR NPC is like, you said, a Hellsguard. The PLD Storyline also revolves around a Seawolf NPC.


Buuuut: It's also kinda okay storyline-wise that there are few Roes...especially ladies, as it fits lore (which again you alluded to ) Personally, I think they are very interesting and striking characters...and the easiest to 'personalize' You can make a friendly,pretty, grissly, beastly, ugly, etc version of a Roe much easier than you can with some of the other races. Try making a truely ugly Midlander for example...best you can do is 'derpy' :P

The absolute least rolled character types in the last player survey I saw were 4% Elezen Females (both clans), 5% Roegadyn Females (both clans)...with I think Hellsguard Females being the actual 'least played' race. (Most people don't like the black nose smudge)

All that said: In my BC static, 3/8 of us are roes. But in the entire FC, only 5 roes exist....and I am the only Lady Roe. My FC has an alarming amount of cat-people and teenage girls though....

I like being a m-roe specifically as a warrior they have the best fighting stance. Thats one thing i missed from ffxi and that was the different fighting stance depending on job and race.

I hadn't noticed that! Now I'll have to keep an eye out for it.

I started off at launch with a Roe female that I played with up until about a month ago, she was totally fit, and I really liked her but, every bit of gear made her look like a transvestite.
I don't know how square managed to make everything look unflattering but I couldn't bear the fact that nothing did her justice, so I reluctantly switched
