I would say that if you don't participate ( I would hope you'd have to register through an NPC ), then you aren't targeted by enemies and can't be hurt by their AoEs.
Yeah I think this would be the best way to go about it. I too wouldn't mind it being open, but it could be a bit daunting if you're a level 1 who has just signed up!You know, maybe it could be done in the actual cities (not instances made to look like the cities), but the mobs only attack people who have signed up for the event. I know even if I didn't want to participate, it would be exciting to watch it happen.
Honestly, I, personally, wouldn't mind if the event was just open and people just had to be careful in the city for a few minutes, but I forsee lots of people having a problem with that.
Either this, or some kind of 'besieged' event would be fun in any city.
Things like that used to occur in the beginnings of WoW, when MMO games, developers and GMs were unpredictable and players weren't crybabies and enjoyed something else than a chore. I miss it and would like to see it in ARR.This sounds...a lot like...the end of an era (end of 1.0) After the final save...when GMs would appear and give us super buffs for dancing with them as they sang "Never gunna give you up" and rick rolling us as we died to dozens of Chimeras running rampant in Ul'dah.
Then they'd tell us not to pray to the mobs, because we'd die. And I would troll unsuspecting players and tell everyone to pray to the mob, and just watch everyone fall over dead. Lmao
Should be like... instanced. And not temporary. It should be in raid form with at least 24 people. I think I could see it happening if then.
C'est Vie ou Mort!
what a great idea! I'd love it!!This is the type of event I'd like to see in-game! I don't know if someone has already suggested it, but it could be hosted in the wolves' den. It would solve lots of problems ..
It's not nearly as fun if it isn't in the 3 cities, with the airship as transport between them. I want to see the chaos in the Quicksand.

Both of these are great ideas/solutions, but the idea of the event is to break the mold of the game, currently Ul'dah, Limsa and Gridania can be mostly deserted, of course NPCs for the guilds, shops and other services wouldn't be avaliable, but does that really matter for the period that the event is up?
The main concept would be to create a community wide effort event that is detrimenting their access to the entire city.
One scenario you could come up with is "Emergency Training" where the Grand Companys are using this as scenario training for GC members to prove their training in protecting their cities, should an "Emergency" occur in the future.
Other scenarios could simply be using it as a sporting event or entertainment, the possibilities are completely open on the foundation of the event.
Think less of the inconvenience it may cause to someone weaving Hempen Yarn and think more on the community event side of things, which would be where the real fun/memories would be created.
In short it's an event to be outside of the box, instead of being cosy and snug in the usual cotton wool wrap we're used to.
Exactly spot on.
The entire point of the event is to create chaos, not avoid it. The game is far too careful about treading on peoples toes.
"What about Mary Sue who logs in for 10 minutes a day to weave HQ hempen yarn to sell on the Market Board every evening?!". Tough luck Sue! You're going to get mauled by a Zanghol if you try to make Hempen Yarn in the courtyard tonight.

sounds a lot like besieged, which was one of the best-worst ideas ever, great in theory....but in practice it just made everyone crash....like besieged if i were to implement this i would quarantine it into a specific section of town, preferably the one with out the Market Place so that the crafters and semi afk people dont cause lag/get lag from the event. people would go nuts for this! and im sure the zones of said event would be overloaded quickly so you would need to put a cap on participants. it would be cool if say "maelstrom character A" wins event...all limsan affiliates get a buff for the week...or maybe a special npc who sells specific stuff only obtainable with points you can earn from said event....anyways IX was one of my favorite games of all time, and the Fest of the Hunt was one of my favorite things about that game (early on) on the topic of importing stuff from IX though, can we get a butterfly sword wielding class?
