Just like any other game pre-release. It's normal to feel anxious about information. For me a huge, impact is better than a having everyone play the game while they completely change/ fix it over the span of a year, I mean look where that's gotten us lol
Thanks for finally killing the ridiculous 'job not locked to class' thing. It was unrealistic, would suck to balance, and generally went completely against the idea of 'specialisations'.Jobs won't have levels and as such won't need to be leveled up. Jobs are an advanced form of the class that unlocks them. So for example purposes, a level 50 Gladiator would be a level 50 Paladin. (Example only!)
Also we can confirm that we'll be changing the term "ranks" (as in rank 50 Pugilist) to "levels" (as in level 50 Pugilist) along with the removal of the physical level. We'll also be changing skill points to experience points.
In summation:
Rank > Level
Skill points > Experience points
Edit: Jesus christ, how have people not grasped what this system is going to be yet? Stop thinking of Paladin as separate from Gladiator! Paladin IS GLADIATOR with the addition of some new abilities that are classics of the paladin archetype, and will be used to SPECIALISE GLADIATOR into a more effective tanking role, probably at the loss of damage.
It's NOT a separate thing, it's just a choice that Gladiators have.

It's actually a solid/ fresh idea. Regardless if players will not have relevel them, I can bet the progression feature involving jobs is going to be interesting.
I don't know if it's been mentioned before, but do we have to switch back to a class in order to level a job?
Since Bay told us that jobs won't quite be like classes, I'm not too sure anymore how it's supposed to work.
Oh and since we're getting tiny bits of information only (which I hate... just spill it already, SE), I'd at least know which class stands for what job.
I'm a CON but as soon as it becomes a WHM I need to reconsider. xD
I'm tired of being a heal bot.. Though, BLM main heal in XI was awesome. lol ..but scary!

I have a feeling that "advanced" jobs will actually come into play much earlier in the game. Maybe you'll learn advanced skills as you level your main. So a Lv 20 GLD can be a lv 20 PLD. Maybe there is more than 1 specialization to learn per class. a GLC can spec. PLD or DRK
I do hope they take a cue from FF:Tactics and new jobs become unlocked as you level basic jobs to a certain point.
Those are details we haven't been given yet. We will have to see when the actual system details are released, which im excited for.
Btw does anyone know when the job system was even planned for release? Was it in 1.18?
It's just my guess, but I think they wanted to keep the current armoury system in place so that solo players could still mix abilities from other classes and survive on their own. If we just have advanced jobs, then people with little time to find parties and play wouldn't be able to enjoy the game.Despite the lack of content needed to level them up, I prefer to have to start a job from level 1. That is indeed the classic FF formula. Another xp bar to fill translates into having more stuff to do. Keep me busy, please! I also highly encourage the dev team to plan for multiple jobs per class, or else what's the point in having classes at all? If leveling a gladiator meant you'd end up being a paladin and only a paladin, then why not just abolish gladiator and have just paladins? It makes the idea of paladin feel meaningless.
I totally agree with you on that. I enjoyed the FF Tactics way of unlocking jobs.
That's not in the plan currently. It would be nice later on down the road, but for now, they've said 1-to-1. . .I have a feeling that "advanced" jobs will actually come into play much earlier in the game.
