Main reason why fights like titan are such a wall.
Main reason why fights like titan are such a wall.
I wanted to make a nice list of thing that I would consider to be common courtesy for in-game behaviour, but I'm not really good at that type of thing, and some people would be displeased with the demanding nature of such a list. Therefore, I shall simple put forward my thoughts in the form of my opinion.
From my perspective, this is a game. It is something that is for fun. When I'm doing a dungeon or some such, I don't really care if someone else doesn't really know what they are doing because I can find the dungeon fun whether we win or lose. At least that is what I would like to say. But really, when things start to not go well, I get worried that someone else is going to get mad, especially if there is a chance that I'm the one not doing well. I dislike it when other people get mad at each other while playing the game.
It is my opinion that if a person does not enjoy simply playing content for the sake of playing content, that person should search out an FC or group of people who wish to play in the same manner as themselves. If people are going to play in the DF or PF with people that they don't know, it would be nice if everyone one would be civil and pleasant. Of course, as a recommendation, it is best for those who don't want to be overly serious to also find an FC to play with.
As for the OP points, I like being over-geared because it makes it so I can get through content without feeling like I'm going to pass out.
I prefer not using guides and videos, because, well that's kind of lame/boring.
Ultimately, I simply wish people were nicer/more sympathetic to each other. But don't worry everyone, I'm not insane. I know that won't happen.
Personally, I watch a strat video before I go into a new encounter. Only if it's a trial though, I didn't do it for CT. With CT, all I did was ask if there was anything I should know as a healer. I can figure the rest out on my own. I mean... all it takes is a pair of eyeballs and a little common sense to notice "oh, everyone is standing over here, maybe I should too."
Mostly, the videos are a bit of a comfort level. I won't remember everything I see, and it won't make me an expert on the fight, but I like knowing what to expect.
As for gear... should you out gear an instance? No... I mean... you have to earn gear to out-gear something... it doesn't just magically appear in your inventory. Fresh 50's have every right to be running the content that's available to their ilvl.
I don't think anyone should have to read a guide or watch a video before stepping into a dungeon, but it is common courtesy to say it's your first time even if no one asks you (and if someone does ask, say yes!). It takes less time to explain the fight than it does to wipe repeatedly until you can figure out what the problem is. If you think people will get upset with you because you say it's your first time, imagine how much more pissed they'll be if they wipe a bunch of times because you decided to keep quiet.

seriously? none of the fights are that hard......read a guide or watch a video before trying? seriously? is it cuz all of the sucky elitists are too lazy to type? or dont know how to explain a fight?
i have yet to even open a guide or video on anything in this game, it took my only 7 total attempts on titan hm to learn the whole fight and know how to react to every attack, and prepare to dodge/heal/pop cds for......and never died more than 2 times of my own failures from learning on any boss in this whole game
btw, those premade mechanic guides are garbage, they often miss small details that can be very important, or they put in assume information that lead to the community getting the wrong info, stop making people follow your fails and allow them to fail and learn on their own
btw, if anyone is looking for a ls that doesnt require stupid stuff like this and on ragnarok, hmu.....no one should be required to watch a worthless video that leaves out alot of details, or a guide that doesnt give enough enough to learn from
The problem arises when people don't say they haven't done the fight before or outright lie when asked.

There is no difference between someone that looked at a video or guide before running a dungeon and having someone in the dungeon explain the fight to them. They didn't learn anything on their own and in both cases, were fed the info they required to succeed.
This is false actually. Many people are actually good at absorbing what they need to do from a video. And many other people think they learn better one way, but in reality don't, because they get distracted by the fight itself and fail to notice things.
Indeed if you help people they will help you succeed. I was in an Ultima fight today and thought it will go down the drain because we had one healer new to the fight and havent seen any video. So we told him what to do and what to expect and avoid from the fight, and guess what? We won on the first try. ^^ If you go in without telling that new guy what to do you would probably fail and keep failing over and over, specially if that person is using an important role like a healer for such fight.
