I don't think the DRG artifact armor is too practical by these same standards.
Grim Reaper actually matches up with Necromancer much better than it every could with Dark Knight. The only way scythe could be feasible as a weapon is if it was bladed on both sides of the blade.

If SE decides not to make DRK a tank, I want it to have 1 handed sword and that's it. They can use their free hand to use their blood abilities and use their sword hand with extreme precision, kind of like sword masters would.

Except Cloud was more of a Warrior/Fighter than a Dark Knight. Wouldn't make a whole lot of sense. Greatsword is FFX-2 crowd.

Only problem I have with the 2h sword idea is how many other theoretical jobs might line up with that weapon loadout (plus I personally find it unlikely a 2h sword class will be up anytime soon simply for thematic reasons).

Regarding Marauder I like how a lot of the design elements line up and from an aesthetic standpoint the attitudes of the marauders sort of bleeds into dark knights pretty well.

Regarding Gladiator I think the main push here is that you can set up some sort of dualit concept, the gladiator splits into the "light" class and the "dark class".

Having too many defensive cooldowns is a problem, but keep in mind the could always do to them what the did to the carbuncles for Scholar: Equipping the job crystal fundamentally changes how those abilities work.

I want a Blood Sword, I want the Ancient Blade, I want the Avenger, I want elemental swords, Hades Blade... I want a whole new line of Swords, not able to be wielded by the PLD.... maybe something like the exist swords stay GLD/PLD, and the new ones go GLD/DRK only...
That's probably really likely. I mean summoners and scholars don't share books either.

That's because they don't share stats. A Dark Knight would likely be STR-focused and would have no need to use different weapons; the current ones have STR and would do just fine. They would not need to create an additional piece of equipment.

And if they were really worried about not wanting extra pieces of gear they'd just put Int and Mnd on every book (they already do this for a lot of mid level items and a few i70 pieces. The second mainstat is unbugeted). It's still a design choice.

Quite the opposite; that's done for balance reasons. If you had unified caster and healer gear, then your average BLM would Physick for 800. This is avoided by limiting access to MND. Unified pieces are limited to low-stat accessories 20 item levels behind.

FYI scythes were actually used in actual battle before. So it is not totally out of reason in a fantasy game a melee combatant to use one.

Wait what?? Do you listen to yourself? Please explain your reasoning. We have a very large two handed sword and visually that is all people need to equate to a Solder from FF-VII.

Scythe used in war I assume this what you meant.

    I was under the impression that we're talking about Dark Knight. So, assuming this isn't completely wrong;

Dark Knight + Greatsword = Cloud + Greatsword
Dark Knight = Cloud + Greatsword - Greatsword
    Dark Knight = Cloud

Yep. Not a fantastical of a design but it did happen. The real life appearnce of the scythe is sort of why I always have a slight thought to the lancer being the DRK class, but hardly my first suspect.

Well that is a leap in your logic. I was more assuming that they would bring in a Solder class to the DRK job, with DRK being only one of the jobs. Not sure what a proper Soldier "Job" would be in this game. My point was, fans of VII like large swords, and a great sword wielder would draw that crowd in more. However, the "Solder" from VII is something to itself. However on an off topic Cloud Strife is seen in concept art with a single bat wing.
