I play in Borderless Window but it's not a SLI/CrossFire GPU, it certainly is running in 1080p and with hardware acceleration. The GPU is nVidia GT730m, primary display is external 1080p display with notebook LCD (1080p as well) for my browser for in-game research etc.

Do I need to tell my video card to upscale or something ?

The resolution on the tv does say 1080p but you can see that it has lost clarity changing from Full Screen 1080p to Borderless Window.

For those who played FFXI it is similar to the issues where you had to do a registry edit to change the UI resoltion and the background resolution.

It just doesn't look as good in Borderless WIndow as it does in Full Screen.

Hmm... It certainly is 1080p as all screenshots and the monitor info reports 1920x1080 resolution.

I undertand the monitor would say 1080p but I do not think the game is running in 1080p, Windows is running in 1080p but the game I feel is running at 720p and upsaling to fill the size of the screen.

A good example of this is change your game to 720p full screen and see if your TV changes from 1080p to 720p, it should stay at 1080p as that is the resolution of Windows.

I am wondering if I might be having an issue with HDMI handshaking with my A/V receiver and FFXIV not reporting the correct resolution from the monitor. If the game truley does just run off the desktop resolution though this wouldn't be an issue.

Mine is definitely 1080p as my GUI/HUD are all over and occupying the edge of the screen in smallest display size, once I was in lower resolution (not quite 720p) they HUD elements all bunched up. So on that reason, I know it is definitely in 1080p.

May quite possible that iPad AirDisplay that cause the issue that it's not rendering in the full aspect? And double check to see which is the display output set at. Try out as what Meric suggested, take things down all the way to single GPU, not other extra display stuff on/enabled, then try SLI, then bring back on the AirDisplay.

p/s: I have used AirDisplay for short period many months ago, but not during/while gaming. I found that AirDisplay is working slow-as dog and totally removed it in the end as I don't see it be any useful or beneficial.
