I can't disagree with that. Would it have been nice to even see a fraction of the dungeon? Of course! Has it been a long time since the last update? Hells yeah! Is it surprising? Not at all.Yeah, my only point is that regardless what the focus of the letter is, it's been almost a month since the last time any of it was mentioned. I'm glad that people are astute enough to know that things have been teased in other letters, but it wouldn't have hurt anything to say...make the character punch a goblin in the face inside the goblin mine.
Killing multiple birds with one stone is never a bad thing.

Fair enough. I figure the posts after yours answered whether AA was the main focus or not without me adding anything. I stand by what I posted. It may not be positive and put SE in the best light but constructive criticism is just as important as your more generous view. Guess we will have to agree to disagree.Sorry, sure, if you believe 1.18's "major addition is auto-attack," that's your opinion. And I respect that. (I've updated my OP with your direct quote.)
I think for myself and many others, the addition of a R30 and R50 Raid Dungeon, tied to the Grand Companies' Rank System, and New Frontier Quest Hubs and other changes to the New Combat System constitute a big part of 1.18. I think those are the real "major additions" to 1.18.
I wish I could be excited about this patch, but the simple idea that most people even consider this a 'major' patch really emphasize how little we expect out the team.
Do you simply not play other MMORPGS? Games like City of Heroes and Eve Online release major patches that add new content, entirely new game systems, existing system overhauls, entire zones, and more. Ever play LotRO? Evendim was a major patch for that game. Ever play City of Heroes? its entire invention system was a major update for the game.
We're getting two dungeons, some extra quest hubs, and the base of a 'new combat system' that seems both slow and not all that different from what we currently have.
The fact of the matter is that this game was released 9 months ago and despite everything, all we've really gotten have been fixed to problems that should have never been present at launch. 9 months in and chocobos and airships aren't even on the horizon. 9 months in and there's no end-game content. 9 months in and basic game functionality still looks like it's in an alpha state.
Please forgive me for not being excited for this patch. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised, but what we're seeing in this patch should have been what we were seeing in minor patches, not major ones.
I don't really have any other games to play. Might as well keep on truckin'.
I played COH for five odd years, so maybe that's why I agree with you. That game did a lot wrong, but they threw content at you hot and heavy.I wish I could be excited about this patch, but the simple idea that most people even consider this a 'major' patch really emphasize how little we expect out the team.

And I am sure that the games you are talking about didn't go through a team upheaval to go along with them. I don't see anyone here saying that the game wasn't released too early or that it shouldn't still be in development phase and should never have been released at all. Instead we try to look towards the future. It may not be a "major" update, but it is the most content that max level players have seen since December.I wish I could be excited about this patch, but the simple idea that most people even consider this a 'major' patch really emphasize how little we expect out the team.

By the way, this statement: "9 months in and chocobos and airships aren't even on the horizon" is false.
that has alot to do with those other companies did a better job with the game than se did. i think that was the point being made. how can we be excited and believe that anything great is coming when it has been one miss step after another so far? remember when you are deciding to use a product you compare them side by side with their competitors. if you do this then it fails to meet the standards of others in the market at the time. And I am sure that the games you are talking about didn't go through a team upheaval to go along with them. how is the "9 months in and chocobos and airships aren't even on the horizon" false? have you seen anything stating it will be added soon? all i heard it they would be looked into in the future.

Too true.

I never said that SE did a good job with the game. I never said that the game wasn't in a sad state. All I said is that those members of the community who are "looking forward to" patch 1.18 choose to be optimistic about the future instead of focusing on the past. I didn't argue that this patch was comparable to other games or even that it was a "major" patch. All I did say was that those other games that FFXIV is being compared to didn't change teams or release far before it was ready. When all you have to do is add content, it makes sense that their patches are bigger.that has alot to do with those other companies did a better job with the game than se did. i think that was the point being made. how can we be excited and believe that anything great is coming when it has been one miss step after another so far? remember when you are deciding to use a product you compare them side by side with their competitors. if you do this then it fails to meet the standards of others in the market at the time.

On the mounts, the following items were posted in Producer Letter X:
-NEW-
Mount system (name tentative)
-NEW-
Examination of mount system (including chocobos)
-NEW-
Establishment of details for mount system
These are all expected to be done by the end of summer. Now that is not to say we will be GETTING mounts by then, just that we should have some concrete information and that it has been confirmed that the team is working on it. How is that "not on the horizon?" When I think of things that aren't on the horizon I think of things like the Arcanist, Mystic, Muskateer, and Fencer jobs that haven't ever been touched on by the Dev team and have no time line what so ever.
