Just met Damion in game and watched a few fights. Answered some questions, is using proper rotations, nothing I can see wrong. However, an ice sprite level 33 added and did kill her, but otherwise killed the morbols just fine. Avoided aoes and everything. Even said leveling a Pugilist to 8 would help, for their self-heal. Really the only thing left is some dungeon runs, improve your gear some.

You need gear with more Str. Unlike paladin and warrior who rely on huge hp pools and damage mitigation to survive. You're job as a dps is to kill it fast. Don't be to hung up on losing a few points on def if your gaining on stats that are more relevant to your class.

Only thing I can think of that hasn't been said is try not to let the mobs behind you. I've heard you don't get block/parry from creatures behind you.

Also - look into using food bufs plus actually following what's the quest about - you should not always concentrate (only) on killing - sometimes you need to protect speficic NPC or kill the mob in certain order (like casters first) to be able to complete the quest and so on. Watch closely the NPC's text - you can also reveiw them after (failed) quest attempt in the chat log - green text. Finally - you don't need to do the lets say lvl 26 quest right away when you reach lvl 26 - you can wait till lvl 29 or 30 to give you a bit of edge.

Your gear is more than sufficient to take on the mobs in any of the quests your level. In my opinion that is.

Just make sure you use the skills available to you, stun, slow, the mrd's drain ability, use your combo's and focus on one mob at a time.

That should do it...otherwise w/o a video I don't know what else to say.

I am a winner, even though I sometimes fail.

Feint helps tremendously on encounters with numerous mobs. I don't know if you are already using it, but if not, at 29 it should last 20 seconds which is long enough to atleast kill one mob.

Other things that will help? Make sure you use life surge and keen flurry. You can also level marauder up a bit for bloodbath.

And at 30 you can do a quest that will allow you to use your grand company chocobo as a fighting companion. Two ranks into the healing path gets you a kind of derpy regen, but it helps, and four ranks in gets you a cure. They both can increase your survivability when fighting open world/fate mobs tremendously.

If you're talking about open world quests, another simple solution is don't fight more than 1 at a time. Use Piercing Talon to grab a mob, then run away a little to pull them into a safe area for you to fight them. For situations where you have to fight more than one at a time, always kill the weaker enemies first, especially any healers or casters.

The best gear is found in dungeons. Green gear is great, but the best pieces are usually the pink ones since they can have up to 6 stat affixes (strength, crit, etc.).

With lancer/dragoon, you're constantly faced with the dilemma of either using dps gear with very little defense (technically dragoon gear), or using tanky gear with insanely high defense but less stat bonuses. A high defense will serve you well when solo, but you'll want high stats and therefore more dps when in a group. Having a tank taking the heat off you makes all the difference in the world.

I'd recommend a mix of both, and try to keep your jewellery upgraded. Haukke Manor is a good place to get some bling bling.

Are you using defensive cooldowns like featherfoot, keen flurry, and foresight? They will help you tank multiple mobs. Make sure you are not allowing mobs to strike you from behind.

I make a point of leveling CNJ to get Cure and Protect as soon as I can on all my characters.
The suggestion to eat food is a good one.
I personally usually wait until I'm a few levels above the quest before doing it if it is an instanced fight.
