"In FFXI you did not need to group with everyone"
Stopped reading after that..... You never played FFXI pre 75 level cap then. Anything past level 15 you had to have a party.

If this is what she is saying you still have this option in FFXIV.
You are not required to do the same in FFXIV either.
And for the Red Mage and Thief yes. you could solo easy pray for 100exp with a Ninja sub-job but at what cost?

If you kick a player out of your PT its grounds for recourse from a GM due to grievance. You can get suspended for making a player feel gimp by informing him his DPS is horrid.
On the flipside, you can que up for CT, get your drop, leave and no one will ever give a sh!t.
You're condemned to content for 4 or 8 members.
Put it this way, if this was XI in 2008, My LS message might read "Sunday Sky Farming: Byakko & Genbu then Dynamis Beauc - Monday Seiryu & Suzaku then Einherjar Chamber 1 - Tuesday Kirin x5 + Limbus - Wednesday Dynamis Lord + Jailer Farm - Thursday Break (Salvage Groups/Nyzul Isle) - Friday Odin - Saturday Limbus
In XIV my FC MSG reads "Hi WELCOME TO XIV. We will be back in 2.2, if it doesn't suck and can't guarantee we will stay"
EDIT: XI has so many valuable lessons for SE to take home and use as a guide in XIV's direction.
I don't think any WoW player will ever be able to understand the loyalty and love XI players had for the game. People were attached to their servers like they were their second home. This current form of XIV, does not have that potential.

FFXI was released in NA in 2002, giving it 6 years to reach this stage of content you mention. ARR was released in Aug 2013....Put it this way, if this was XI in 2008, My LS message might read "Sunday Sky Farming: Byakko & Genbu then Dynamis Beauc - Monday Seiryu & Suzaku then Einherjar Chamber 1 - Tuesday Kirin x5 + Limbus - Wednesday Dynamis Lord + Jailer Farm - Thursday Break (Salvage Groups/Nyzul Isle) - Friday Odin - Saturday Limbus

There was more content and party play in 1.0.
There was most certainly more content in RoZ (NA Release FFXI) than there is in FFXIV 2.0.
Also, XI was SE's first MMO. You would think that after 12 years of experience they would be able to gauge what type of content is worth investing in and what type isn't.
Chocobo racing - fail.
Pankraton - fail.
Small man, instance restrictive Pvp- fail.
Reskinning, recycling content - fail.
Please, look forward to it.
They do know. That's why they're making content for us "casual" players who take our time and enjoy the game for what it is instead of catering to the small percentage of "I steamrolled Titan XM with a hand tied to my back, I NEED MOAR" players. All these threads always boil down to the hardcore 5% saying SE is clueless while the rest of the players (most of whom don't even browse the forums) don't care. There was more content and party play in 1.0.

FFXIV came out in 2010 they had to redo it, yet still broken in 2014. FFXI even in 2003 when the usa launch it had better balance of game there.
Disappointment
- People complaining that FF14XIVARR didn't live up to their standards.
We all know this part is just a opinion for people and opinions vary between people
Yes the upcoming MMOS may be in their standard and they will obviously move to the new shiny and hip MMO like Elder scroll online, Wildstar, and EverQuest next but each one of them is set up to cater to different people.
Wildstar, for example, is like a Rachet and Clank MMO. It doesn't take itself seriously and has plenty of strange comedy. Heck the storyline and Story Quest for the game is going to be set up to be a Rachet and Clank level of comedy and seriousness. It certainly will be fun to play for plenty of laughs.
Then there is also the issue people assume too much and let their imagination run wild often which ruins people's perspective of the new MMOs. In the end we all know people who move to those new MMOs may just find themselves stuck in the same position they were here. Disappointed with what they get in these new MMOs and never satisfied.
