what happens to archer? multishot?
After seeing it again I need to admit the speed is pretty disappointing. Doesn't seem to be fast paced like they mentioned.
I think you're giving them way too much credit. Pretty sure the current speed is there to stay.
That may be but then consider how much TP you're getting and able to dump into weaponskills. Are the weaponskills adding significant additional attack delay? He's taking forever sometimes to pick actions, and so the attack speed may appear slower than it could be.
IIRC, in XI using any action added 60 delay to any upcoming attack round (Probably wrong, I was never one of the Kaeko math geniuses). I'd recommend trying to determine that now, but as it's in development, the results are functionally meaningless for now. Just navel-gazing.
Yep. Because every MMO with auto-attack causes people to be bored out of their minds and fall asleep. It's not a testament to how much of a role auto-attack plays into combat. It's just the fact it's there. /endsarcasmI'm just honestly amazed at the 'Wow, that AA looks amazing!' type of responses to this video. Seriously, no sarcasm involved... how can watching your character attack and waiting for it (it, not you) to build up enough TP for other attacks be interesting?
Time to start sleeping at my keyboard again *sigh*.
Yes I do have a My Little Pony sig because I'm not a complete loser who lives in his own little world, proclaiming something is stupid because I say so.
I like the sword-attacking animations and the skills look cool. The battle speed is fine and i'm really looking forward for this.
I still don't like the typical MMORPG-UI for the battle commands. I prefer the classic FF -UI.

I enjoy the auto-attack feature, especially in a game where there is no option for a built in voice chat feature. (It allows me to convey my actions across the text WITHOUT having to sacrifice my playing potential (and yes if you have to type something out in a game without an automated attack you are sacrificing damage for strategy there is no way you can really argue this as your hands are doing something else other than mashing the 1, 2, or 3 keys)
Secondly I feel the pace is just fine, it is indeed faster than XI's auto-attack, something which was fleshed out quite nicely when you got towards the mid-level area of your job (because you should have had plenty of job/subjob abilities and/or spells to play around with in combat).
Also, I am glad they are making the animations look much better, if anything at all, Final Fantasy is KNOWN for its flashy animations (Summons in the non-MMO FF games are like 30 second animations for crying out loud) and it was one of the biggest turn-offs for me in this game (the lack of flashy animations), I'm really pleased with this letter to the producer, albeit I was hoping for some more job information...but this satiates my hunger for the time being.
Square-Enix is working hard, and I sure all the ridiculous bitching/whining in their forums are making them shit bricks about trying to "please" us.
And to note about the delay issue in XI, I believe the 60 delay (1 second) was more of a coding issue than anything, with a newer game I would expect it to either: A) Not exist due to better coding or B) have it being only a 10 Delay (1/6 second) or something a lot less than 60 Delay.
To me it seems like ffxi boring slow battle system all over again now. All they did was make the battle system much slower then before with auto attack. Sure theres some cool looking moves now but slow boring battle system is still a slow boring battle system.
