I read the OP and saw the screen shot prior to it being removed. The GM in question made no mention of the player being reported or anything at all behavior related. The GM said FFXIV-APP was a, "HUGE violation of the ToS". While SE isn't providing consistent information on this topic I would think its smart to just not talk about parsers in-game or anywhere other than voice coms until there is some clarity.

People who played FFXI already knew this - If you're going to use bots, hacks and whathaveyou don't brag about it or openly talk about it, they do monitor chat and logs, which is why "innocent" people got banned in the Salvage Ban sweeps.

There's nothing wrong with parsing in general, but it might actually be the other stuff that XIV-App does that people seem to ignore for the most part, you know, the custom plugins that are designed to give advantages that you find on a certain site? I really doubt it's the parsing that bothers SE lol.

They've also given ENB Injector their blessing. Their replies in both cases sort of make it sound like parsers might be OK, but I can't recall them ever talking specifically about parsers at all, either.

Yeah, I doubt parsing raises the flag, it's the other features of XIVAPP that can be a bit "troublesome" honestly. Not even what comes packaged with it, but the "potential" to do some shady stuff with it.

However, if you use it to affect another players gaming experience the parser is effecting the game and therefore falls under the use of third party apps.

I don't think you understand what the app even does. All it does is convert the data that you can openly SEE in your chat log, into an easily readable layout.

It didn't affect the other player in any way, it didn't make them do less dps, and it didn't put them at a disadvantage against the person running the app.

I understand perfectly what it does it reads the log on your system and converts it into a display. As i already mentioned that in itself is fine and you are not breaking the TOS by using it.

However, as i have mentioned multiple times already. using it for malicious purposes such as telling someone who doesn't want to know their parser results or kicking people from parties because they did not reach a set benchmark and then telling them that the parser is the reason. is breaking the TOS as you are affecting another persons game with a third party tool.

in this case you violate 2 sections of the TOS

- harassment.
- third party tools for malicious intent.

I have no issue with parser and I too like to keep track of my own performance, but if I am in a party with people who consistently pull people up on DPS or healing etc posting parser results and causing arguments (more often than not) then I as a player can report said person for third party tool use, player harassment and disruption of my gaming experience. Most players get away with this because people don't report them but just be aware that you can be reported for it.

Good point, and I can totally see this as an issue if people are doing that within the game. I, myself, have never used a parser and have no interest in using one. But if people are using it in such a way, it's not right and I could see why SE might be changing their mind on its use.

That's apparently why he got the warning, the reference of FFXIV-APP in his FC chat was just a reference by the GM about the tool that was used. He was calling out a MNK in CT for having low DPS and the guy reported him for it.... the tool itself is not illegal, it's being an jerk that will get you in trouble.

Aside from the fact that none of that happened, sure. And even if it did happen (which it didn't!), it is not harassment to tell somebody what their dps is. It's not disruption of gameplay either.

By your logic I should be able to report you for harassment right now since you're trolling and harassing myself and everyone else on the forums by spreading lies and false information. (And by should I mean I am. Enjoy your ban!)

Kicking someone for having low DPS isn't really harassment, nor is it using a third party tool with malicious intent. It's being a bit of a dink, but it's not against any rules unless they use vote kick. Also if they insult you, then sure, but if they kick you and give you the valid reason that your DPS was too low and they would like to find someone who can pull bigger numbers? That's not harassment, and again, unless they vote kick you there is nothing you can do about it.

Likewise they could report you, and your low DPS, for disrupting their gaming experience. It's not a one way street. You are in a group and the interest of the group comes before the individual.
