    Garuda-egi vs. Ifrit-egi

Hello, I am a new summoner player (lvl 38 now) and I would like to discuss about the 2 damage dealer egis that summoner has.

I recently watched this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=diROOR4VZKg and it seems garuda is better (that is patch 2.0 but I don't think it matters). However, I think it is better to use ifrit in some situatiations, one I could think is if the fight ends before your shortest dot falls off, thus making contagion useless, like when dealing with weak trash pulls or handling weak adds (like dealing with the adds in tonberry king). Cause in a short amount of time ifrit does significantly more damage, when garuda does more damage during a longer time frame. If ifrit isn't in danger of dying, I think it makes sense to use him when fighting trash. One other situation, although it's a one that should be avoided is if you really need to stun a boss, and you have no other job to do that. Although I don't really know any situation where this would apply.

I was asking myself that same question.
It's still a work in progress but: http://sollabs.net/media/xiv/summoner_pet_breakdown.txt
The problem I run into is that even if ifrit is getting hit with his radiant shield on, the potency is "his" potency vs contagion being SMN potency. This causes radiant shield to hit for 57 dmg (avg over 20 hits) with a max of 89 vs. contagion being based on the smnr potency where 50 potency is equiv of 133.16 ( all conversions done with my stats/gear listed at top of txt file).
RS requires 12 hits to equal the same potency (600) of contagion. Depending on the mob it's most likely not going to get that. So even if you ignore the potency variation between ifrit and smnr you still require an excessively high hit # to equal similar potency (not damage).
Also is phys dmg only, and ifrit is almost never getting hit by anything but AOEs (some phys, most not) in groups.
Even if you take the main damage dealing abilities (WB vs. BS+auto attack) WB usually keeps up in terms of damage because of resistances.

I think we can all agree that radiant shield is pretty crappy and in a normal instance situation ifrit will never get hit, it should not even be counted in the damage calculations.

I mean for trash mobs it really comes down to your personal preference although when doing wp i do like bio2->misama->bio->contagion->bane. Unless your doing an amazingly fast speedrun chance is bio will drop off all your targets before you kill them unless you contagion. You won't get it off for every pull but every other pull probably.

Ifrit is bugged as his attack animations have an animation lock causing him to do less DPS than Garuda. Consider that Garuda is ranged so also loses far less DPS moving around compared to Ifrit and ALSO has Contagion... there is genuinely no situation where Ifrit is ever a better choice.

SE really need to buff Ifrit to make him comparable or situationally more useful.

The only time I've ever heard of Ifrit being usable (not better then Garuda, just usable) is in PVP, thwacking away at mages, interrupting there casts.

The only reason I summon Ifrit is to kill trash mobs since I'm decked out in 5/6 crimson pieces, he simply matches better...

Other than, he can gtfo. He isn't terrible in PVP, at least. He can bug the crap out of a caster if they're not smart.
