I don't see the problem? every game has level restrictions on quests. And besides that, there are tons of quests. I've never run out of them either, and i still have a whole bunch in each are that I've never done.

So I have a question. If you don't want to do fates, or repeat dungeons, how do you want to level up? Doing quests over and over is the same thing, camping in some spot and killing the enemies over and over is the same thing. All MMOs have some repetitive tasks in them. You're probably not cut out for any MMO if this bothers you.

You hit level lock out far more often in this game than you do in almost any other modern MMO*, which is a bad thing when you have a quest-based leveling system. Every other game has things like Fates and/or dungeons to supplement your leveling(and gearing) experience, but does not require you to grind on dungeons just so you can get that next level in order to do the quests again; Most games don't tie progression in your main story to unlocking the dungeons either...

And i wouldn't say the OP isn't cut out for MMO's, there are many other games with more robust leveling systems than this; SQE has managed to take the normal annoyances you can experience in leveling and amplify it to actual painful levels.

As for the OP itself, i seriously doubt that SQE would refund any amount of your subscription.. The reason is two-fold, the first is just the fact that they are SQE and their customer service is one of the worst you'll see in this line of business. The second is that you normally get rewards for subbing for a certain amount of time, and they will probably feed you the BS that they are unable to lock those items out, or remove the privileges for usage of those items from your account. Though, i would say try anyway, other companies are usually able to do partial refunds on bundle services (they usually credit you back your whole bundle, then charge you again for what you've used)

I feel like this is just another crying "I quit" thread but with a different approach. I don't really know why you'd expect a refund for something on a subscription. If you had a phone contract with no obligation and you paid for a month that you wanted to cancel you wouldn't get a refund for that month. It's the same for anything like this especially MMO's.

If people don't like the game I completely understand and understand wanting to quit but I really don't get why a lot of people come to the forum to explain why they quit. If you don't like something, don't play it and move on. If you didn't cancel your subscription in the time they give (and it's kinda obvious what time you have to cancel) then it kinda comes back to you being negligent, sorry to say.

Also just to add, if you did want to cancel why not just cancel at the time of deciding? You still get that months subscription but at the end of the month you can't play anymore.

Except quests and FATEs, there are still dungeons, hunting log and leves to get exp.
And there should be enough quest to get to the next level with the first class. If you don't find a quest in a region, try it in another region.

Maybe end game could be fun but I'm not sure if the work I have to do to get there is worth it and I don't see having to grind fates or repeat dungeons to level changing any time soon.
Have you tried doing Leves, side quests, and Hunting Logs?

SE does not do refunds as far as I know. It's not really their fault anyway if you cancelled late.
No need to try to persuade him to stay guys. If quest level lockout is enough reason for him to quit, I don't think he has the patience for RPG games in general. He would be better off playing shooters or RTS games.

Now hold on a second, trigger happy shooter fans have to grind out kills as well you know, and unlocking that fancy new weapon means repeating the same BGs over and over to get there. Then you've got RTS, where you have to stop and think about what you are doing, do you zerg and hope for the win? stack turrets and just sit there laughing at everyone coming and dying? or do you make use of micros and pincer with a well placed ambush? All games require some form of patience, but to be fair to you story lockouts are at the very bottom of the list when it comes to quitting. Personally, I never even noticed them, most of the time I was overleveling zones and having to scale back so I didn't keep getting level synced when I went into story events.

    I forgot to mention guildhest.
Very good exp if you do them the first time and good fast exp if you do them with duty roulette.

SE will not give you any refund. It is in the ToS.

Tired of hitting that Level-Lock? Then keep doing the highest dungeon you have unlocked so you can obtain the Current level Aetherial/Unique gear (Mages want full Battlemage set from 32-43).

Once you've maximized your items, you should probably be 2-3 levels ahead of your 'Level requirement' (up to current max level). Also, do your daily Low Level roulette and other roulettes.

How can you be hitting level lockouts? Unless you're switching classes in between quests, its impossible for you to be hitting locks.

Back when I started FF14:ARR, I started out in Ul'dah, and I didnt do the first mayor Storyline Quest until I did all the missions in Central and Western Thanalan, that story mission was 5 yet i was 12 before I started doing any story missions.

There's an abundance in quests, its not logical for you to be hitting locks any time soon unless, as I said before, are switching classes.
