    Its kind of like how FFX is actually the same world and the prequel for FFVII. If you pay attention to the storyline.

    Now then FFXIV and FFXI have the same races so somehow they must be linked, the Shantotto thing maybe that link.

    If Altana, Promathia and the Zilarts were a thing on Hydaelyn, sure.
