People sacrifice good gear for "fashion"

Something I don't really understand is the growing desire people have to looks "fashionable" rather than have better gear. It's pretty shocking how many people just tell me "I'm wearing this because it looks better" even though they are well aware of gear being better for them that doesn't look so stellar >.<. Stuff like this can really make a party suffer and it's quite selfish so I ask why? Why is this allowed? Anyone else relate?

Better than people wearing rank 50 gear as a rank 20, and is not beneficial to their class anyways. ex. Conjurer wearing Vintage Haubergon. Don't ask me why, I have no clue either.

Honestly who are you to talk? People have a right to play/ dress as they please what is "better" gear for you may not be "better" gear for them. I hate when people pull the selfish card. Honestly coming from ffxi AND WoW gear made me no better or worst. It the player skills that really counts. I do not go after the epic gear because how un fun it is. People are making mmo be like jobs and work places. Like ffxi endgame, if you decided your not in the mood to go your labled selfish. Why should someone dictate what I can or can't do on my time in a game i play just for enjoyment? The real selfish people are the ones to take it upon themselves to act like the game police. That you have to follow these "rules" or else. And if you do not, you are labled as rude, selfish, gimp, bad etc.

Stuff like this lead to cookie cutting which make playing mmo boring.

The only way it would piss me off is if the gear was like 30 levels behind their level. Otherwise, meh, this game is a cakewalk anyway.

pretty much this. You can do everything in underwear in this game, as long as there is no challenge NEEDING the gear and as long as stats VS lvl means close to nothing... who cares Rather complain why SE offers such a limited amount of different/nice/good looking gear.

that's why they have "gear merging" system in the other MMOs and I want to see that system in XIV

We're getting a Materia system in the near future. So there's that. But thanks very much I'd rather wear what I'd like in certain slots even if it's not top rank for me.
Especially since there aren't many r50 gear.
