    Classes/Jobs and Weapons

    Is there a thread anywhere that discusses the pros and cons of these two things being linked? Just wondering what people think about this system going forward. Will it be too restrictive when it comes to creating new classes? I suppose if they needed other classes to use swords they could, for example, just classify them as "war swords" or "knight swords" etc etc.
    Or maybe all classes that use swords will come from the gladiator and the weapon will be shared amongst them.

    Thoughts?

    I think it's been officially stated, that the class per job is 1-1. So PUG=MNK, MRD=WAR, GLD=PLD...etc...
    So if the system is that basic, then weapons for jobs must be equal to the class that unlocks them.

    Unless which I hope in theory is what they do, treat classes as requirements to unlock jobs, but treat classes as the weapon levels for jobs.

    So for example, Warrior can use Great axe, Sword, H2H, and Lances. To level the Warriors efficiency with those weapons, would require the Warrior to level the class that is connected to those weapons.

    Kinda similar to ffxi's versions of skilling up weapons. However, weapons(or classes) still have the ability to play as independent units.

    Also to add to the other questions you had about multiple similar weapon types, I don't think that will ever be a situation. If they release new classes, each class will use their own weapon, or else the entire system in the first place is useless.

    The original DATS showed another sword user called a Fencer, however fencer uses rapier's which I guess is SE's excuse to create another sword type class. But as far as just standard swords, will belong to GLD.

    People have tossed around the idea that there might also be "Job specific weapons", since the devs mentioned job specific equipment. So for instance, if say they added Dark Knight later on, instead of adding a Scythe class, they could just have Scythe weapons that can be used by Marauders as long as they have Dark Knight set as their job. The same thing could be done with say Rapiers for Red Mages as Thaumaturge.

    I do hope that the class just unlocks the job to be used, not that they are locked into that class only. So you could be a Lancer/Paladin if you wanted to, but it might not necessarily be the best.

    The only similarities that PUG has with MNK is the H2H and Second Wind (Chakra).....if you want to see what it's more comparable to, that would be THF, friend.

    For these jobs, has there been a post clarifying if you have to start at rank 1 with the job or would it match the rank your current class is?

    I dont think they've ever stated anything official aside from suggesting that Gladiator would be able to take on a Paladin job, and that was in that Dengeki interview/ an example posted by Bayohne.

    The Pugilist -> Monk is just an assumption since they use hand to hand combat weapons. Same as we dont know what magic classes will be able to take on a specific mage job yet.
