Sorry but, of all the things FFXI did well (I'd love to see campaign and abyssea's poppable NM systems [although not as easy to acquire gear] show up), the UI is not one of them. It's archaic and horrible to look at, even when you change the window style to be practically transparent.
I'd say ALL the things FFXIV badly, the HUD is not a real problem (let me emphasise that I mean the display outside of menus, NOT the horrid menu-maze we have for performing just about any task right now). It's relatively clean and clear, and you can move it around a lot. There's room for improvement, but I wouldn't say it matters right now.
But for the love of god, don't make it look like FFXI's.

I liked XI's ui, but i did use a custom ui to make the chat box longer and thinner. and make it a grey translucent color, and i hate smaller text also.

There's a fix for that if you're interested. You can use the Function keys in order to open other menus instead of accessing through the main menu. It's awesome if you have the FFXIV controller =DOriginally Posted by Sephr

Also, I believe that one day they'll introduce combo hotkeys, so hang in there!
F1 -> Inventory
F2 -> Gear
F3 -> Actions & Traits
F4 -> Attributes
F5 -> Browse Bazaar
F6 -> Check
F7 -> Point Allotment
F8 -> Synthesis
F9 -> Loot list
F10 -> Journal
That's my setup, and it feels really comfortable with the FFXIV controller =)

Except XI's chatbox was horribly clogged by a ton of information that was overly reliant on filters that were too damn broad to be of any real use. And you're seriously going to preffer that over a real functional chat box and interface? Really?
XIV's chatbox is pretty good. What they need is the ability to create extra tabs (provided its not already ingame and I haven't figured out how to do it) so that I can finally put LS chat it its own tab rather than let things get cluttered with NPC and system message text. Other than that its one of the few parts of the UI that they got right.
* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
Most UI elements don't fit the FF style.
I don't understand why they didn't pick one style and make all the menus with that look?
Now it looks like there's crap from 15 different games copy pasted all over my screen.
For what it's worth I like the blue boxes with white text.But that's just one of the 30 different graphic design styles in this mess.
XI managed to stick to one look like most pre FF titles.
I use the preset keys like i = inventory e = equipment etc. I mean more for things like selling/buying/crafting it's just so ridiculously convoluted that it just makes me not want to play.There's a fix for that if you're interested. Thanks for the info though on those hotkeys

I don't have a problem with that, but I understand that situation. Maybe they'll do some performance updates to speed up things. Other than that I can't see more coming, because rebuilding a new UI means re-adapt people who played since release. But Hey! They could do themes to solve that problem =D
