My question for the Crafting Q&A

There are so many questions I would love to get answers on for crafting but I havent seen this one anywhere,

At the momment it is possible for everyone to max out all their crafting jobs, will this continue to be the case when the level cap is raised?
My reason for asking this is if everyone can max level all crafts, they will never need anyone else to make goods for them thus this will have a strong impact on the economy of the game, either nobody sells anything because everyone can make their own gear/food/potions or everyone trying to sell their goods driving the prices rock bottom!

I only have 11 as a reference point, and in my oppinion only being able to specialise in one craft (too lvl 100), and sub any other craft (to 60),not counting fishing I know, benefited the economy.

Without a strong economy there will be no need for the AH so many are crying out for,
I understand that not everyone will level every craft to cap even if permited to, but even if only 25% of a server's population does,it will still have a great impact.

1 person has all crafts at cap, they can potentialy take 100% profit from the market place(by selling goods on all crafts), whilst putting 0% back ( not needing to buy any other goods)
1 person has one spesialised job, they can potentialy take 12.5% (1 in 8) of profit from the market, whilst putting back into 87.5% ( buying from the 7 other crafts )

I'm not crying out for chains to be placed on players but I do want duration from this game, and one of the good foundations to this is the economy.

I definitely think there should be some restrictions regarding crafting, and the one 100, rest 60 cap of XI seemed very fair, as you had to specialize, but could still do a wide variety with the other crafts.

Very much agreed! I am also curious as to the direction crafting is headed going forward, and hope they keep things like this in mind, and handle them very carefully. I would definitely welcome a system similar to XIs capping system on crafts, were they to adopt something similar.

Another thing I'm curious about, is if crafters will continue to have their own unique story-lines to look forward to in the future. It seems we will be more in the background, and serve more of a support purpose, in the future. I'm totally fine with that! I agree with a lot of people that crafters shouldn't be in the big fights, or main story-lines, but I still think the side stories/quests should stay.

I've heard mention of new tools for crafters that don't use the crafting mini-game. I think that this would be amazing! I believe that there are way too many craft ingredients being dropped, while crafting takes to long to use them all up, which throws off the economy. I'm starting to think that fixing the economy is their second priority after the battle system.

bad idea, these were supposed to be classes. why can i be any battle class but only 1 crafter? the time investment is deterent enough, its only like this because we been at initial cap for 9 months. One person being able to make something with out others doesnt effect the market that much

Bad idea to limit crafting. With the actual lack of content, leveling all crafts gives something to do. I think economy is overrated, so many players keep talking about economy this, economy that, lets leave economy to the real world where it belongs, i dont want its stench in my games.
If i invest the time and effort to craft in games, i do it for several reasons (fun, something to do, satisfaction of making equipment myself etc), i do NOT craft to make game money.
Besides given the amount of time and effort required to level crafting, dont worry, very few players will level all crafts so your precious economy wont be affected.
Last but not least, being able to level everything you want, is one of the very few standout features of this game, why take it away.

OP, I get what you're saying...

But I have to agree with the others who are posting. I feel that it is a very bad idea to limit crafters... especially with the lack of content that is in the game at the moment. Just like a battle class or gathering class... if people wish (and choose) to spend the time to get all their classes to cap then why should other people say its not fair or shouldn't be allowed?

If someone wants to take all of the crafts to cap all the power to them because it is a huge pain. If some don't like to craft and/or don't want to put the effort into it then that is their choice, and they can put their effort into getting whatever classes they want to cap. No one is forcing anyone to do anything in this game, and people shouldn't be limited and not be able to do what they want to do.

I also agree with Kaboro... I don't craft to make money or control the economy etc... I rank up crafting jobs because I enjoy doing them and if I want to take up every single one I should be able too. I like to help the people in my shell, to repair items for them and to help them make parts for things they need to craft. There is no greed factor in why I rank up all my classes, just a desire to help myself and others around me.

I also agree that being able to rank up everything to cap is one thing this does have going for it. Seems silly to restrict people when t hey want content and crafting is one thing people are kinda doing to kill time...

Restrictions were not an issue in XI.

The markets are flooded enough as we need hundreds of the same synthesis to rank up just once currently.

Other reasons come to mind like botting...

I'm glad you're having fun crafting, but you'll feel even more accomplished by specializing and reaching the top, while at the same time having balance added to the world.

I will have to add my voice to the no group and say I would prefer crafting were not limited. Crafters are classes in this game and if crafters are imposed a limit in XIV I want to see the same limitations placed on harvesters and battlers. 1 level 50 per archetype. What's fair is fair.

I do understand your points about a craft is a class, you get to start it as a main job so you should be able to leve as many as you want, but that wasnt my main point, my consern is with how it is going to affect the economy. If an AH does get introduced we will need a stable economy.
