Holy crap you folks are awful. I know this community is rubbish by this is really bad. Why hasn't anyone actually told him any of the reasons it could be gone instead of being little asshats about it?

To the OP: there's three reasons your gil may be gone and the solution to all of them is to put in a support ticket, they've been very good about restoring removed gil (for the most part).

1) They took a lot of gil out of the market that they felt was linked to RMT transactions. I'm not sure by what metric they used to do this but a lot of people had their accounts suspended and came back to a significantly smaller amount of gil. Those that had no RMT activity on their account and were incorrectly flagged had this resolved.
2) There was an exploit that allowed hackers to remove large sums of money from individuals, but only those who had the money on them and not in their retainers. These lost funds were also restored.
3) Your account itself may have been compromised if something else is missing too. Make sure to check your storage to find out.

In any event, you should put in a support ticket and they will fix things for you. It's awful and that really sucks to come back to but I'm sure they'll make it right for you.

The RMT were only able to take money from people who were online using that exploit.

If he had 3m and now only has 250k, it's likely a legacy tax. Why would RMT leave him with any gil? Unless he had 250k and bought 3m.

No its not a legacy tax. i was a PS3 beta tester. only played the game on PS3 when it was released. I played till mid november of 2013 to clarify for ppl.

I stopped because things have been hectic with trying to find a new apartment and other things, so didnt make sense to pay monthly if i wasnt going to be able to play much.

i came back to try out what i been missing since SE gave this free weekend. to my surprise i come back to 3 million gil gone from my character. i aint even mention the total amount missing from my retainers (about 700k, there was 150k left in them total).

I just dont understand what happen. But thank you to those being considerate. not everyone cheats in games people...

Your account was probably compromised while you were gone, sucks but it's not SE's job to watch your account while you're gone

Wait. Why is nobody pointing out that this gil allegedly "saved up from questing" is about 10x the amount of gil you actually get from questing 1-50? Did I miss something here?

When SE removed gil from accounts suspected of RMT any gil on retainers was unaffected so your mention of losses there too mean this was not SE's doing. Someone else has logged into your account and taken that gil.

I'm going to take a wild guess that the login details you use for FFXIV are the same as you use somewhere else on the web... You can probably see where I'm going with this.

Reading some of the rude trolls post on here jeez just tell them to send in a ticket there's no need to bash them or brag about how easy you can make gil. So yes prob best to call them Monday btw to some ppl if gil means nothing to you PM me in game id love to get some seeing as how it's so easy to make :P

I'm giving the benefit of the doubt here...

One possibility is that while you, OP, were doing things legitimately, you may have put your legitimately acquired goods up on the market which was then purchased by someone whose gil was purchased from an RMT. So while you, the OP, may not have bought or sold gil, if you put up any goods on the market may have been purchased by someone who did.

As someone else had mentioned, there was also an issue with an exploit being used to remove large sums of gil from players right under their noses.

Another possibility is that your account, OP, was compromised.

In any case, submit a ticket is really all you can do.
