Well when you put it that way, it's no wonder that nobody remembers us, lol.Well,to be fair. We did fail spectacularly at saving the world. We did some stuff but we still let the moon fall. Course, we didn't know the moon held Bahamut at the time. Perhaps if we did, we would have tried a little harder? Still, not Legendary hero type results if you ask me!
One thing to understand about the FFXIV storyline is that it isn't complete. It's an ongoing thing. So you've only seen the storyline so far, not the whole thing.
It should also be noted that during the Hildibrand quests the Warriors of Light seem to be actually be now seen in a more negative light - a npc in the Golden Bazaar mentions how she 'never trusts anyone who claims they are a Warrior of Light' because inevitably they're proven false and are usually thieves out to capitalize on the story, and even in that same quest an adventurer NPC starts boasting how he is supposedly one himself and about his supposed heroics at Carteneau, including nonsense about how he tried to save Louisoix - of course even he's quickly proven to be nothing but a fraud who couldn't even defend himself against.Gilgamesh
As I've mentioned in the past, the way the narrative seems to be, the Warriors of Light are less a group of literal adventurers who saved Eorzea, and more an ideal that adventurers should aspire to be like - as far as the narrative goes, the 'real' Warriors of Light, that is, the ones that were at the Battle of Carteneau, never return (or at least, their identities are never actually known by the world at large). Either way, all player characters are essentially Warriors of Light by the end anyway, as that's how Hydaelyn Herself refers to to the player after the final battle, thus making the argument rather moot.

On a slightly related note, here is the original 1.0 opening trailer for those that wish to view it~ http://youtu.be/DCi1F1OvFSo
If I recall correctly, they ditch the male Elezen (who would blame them) and form a party with the group from his vision.

If you beat Nael van Darnus (or some other requirement that I do not know) you get a special scene when starting 2.0. It shows your character appearing in a remote location (via the spell used to teleport away from Meteor) and beginning to walk to your "starting" city of choice. So yes, unfortunately, the guys from the cutscenes are not in the game (yet).
Oh, I had always thought the male elezen became the BLM. I'd mostly forgotten about the female one...
EDIT: How did it escape my attention for all these years that the Hyur has the Echo. My lord.
Doubledit: I can't tell the difference. The best shot I can find of the BLM is right before they get on their chocobos, and I can't draw any conclusions from it.

My god I don't know who did this but it's enough to induce motion sickness. I remember the opening cinematic and I promise you the camera never moved around THAT much even during the start of it. Somebody added their own "effects" to the scene and now it looks like an amateur tried to shoot the scene. On a more related note, the male Elezen was actually replaced by the female from the vision. The female Miqo'te is the only original party member he continued to travel with before finding the group from his vision. Incidentally in the v1.0 story we were originally paired up with an NPC ally that was supposed to be your partner during the walk, SE hasn't mentioned whatever happened to them since. Personally I would like to see them make a return later on, possibly even as a summonable ally like your chocobo.
Yeah I noticed. Rewatching it now I realize the Miqo'te there has so much more emotion in her ear movements as she sits there staring at him near the end. Why can't we have this much control over our own ears SE?! I DEMAND MORE EAR MOTION! /cough Off-topic but you never know! ^^;;
Louisoix isn't dead. Neither is Nael Van Darnus for that matter.
