I dunno, I can't stand esports and let's plays, but I love playing video games.

    But I digress.

I think there is a huge difference between watching a 30 second clip of a battle with a ram or a bat, vs actually using it, figuring out the ins and outs, and forming decisions based on it.

30 seconds sure but when you watch it for several hours it becomes a lot more than 30 seconds. I'm not big into e-sports or let's plays either but I do watch games I intend on buying to get a good idea how the game functions/plays. This determines whether or not I'll enjoy playing it. If watching it gives me no sense of interest or enjoyment chances are I'm not going to like playing it. Also my post was more about if someone watched basketball and went "I would rather play this than watch this." that's not the kind of person or reaction I'm talking about but if someone watches basketball and thinks "You know this looks really stupid and boring. I don't find this interesting in the slightest." there's a good chance they won't like the game itself. If I watch a live stream and hate everything there is about the game I'm watching the chance of me actually finding it enjoyable is going to be slim. It's called doing research before making a purchase. If the product turns most people off to itself when others do research there's likely a problem with the product.

What I'm trying to say is that I'm not bashing people who liked 1.23. I'm merely pointing out that some of us have seen it (others played it) who didn't like it. I don't see very many people praising 1.23. In fact, I know more people in my boat who kept an eye on FF14 hoping that it would turn out good but were never impressed by what we saw. Even when ARR was announced my friends got excited and I told them to hold their breath. I honestly and truly thought this game was going to flop until I saw gameplay. It actually looked fun so I bought it and enjoyed my purchase.

The changes to 1.23 never drew me in like that.

Well we all got our own opinions, I'm not going to resort to name calling like some posters have on both sides of the fence.

However, what are you talking about that you don't see people praising 1.23? First "praising" would be the wrong word (the game still needed work and had a lot of flaws), but preferring the direction of 1.23 over ARR I do see. Look in this thread, the "Bittersweet" thread, the "Eorzea has no Teeth" thread, and you see v1.23 people disliking the direction that 2.0 had gone, as well as posts in them that have high "like" numbers. I'm not trying to make a contest here, but I'm seeing a lot of people that did want the 1.23 direction. Some people wanted everything, some want pieces of 1.23; be it crafting, exploration and danger, or the battle system.

Regardless where ARR is going, I'm going to stick with it because I love FF, as well as the aesthetic and setting of XIV. Nothing else really tickles my fancy because it's more of the same generic gritty western fantasy game. I also have a hope that the game will see more growth of depth in it's first expansion like FFXI saw with Zilart.

By the few I mean post wise. There's more people who stated disagreement and voiced disagreement than people who voice positive things about 1.23 and 1.0 but that's neither here nor there. I'm not arguing against the direction 1.23 is going but instead arguing that the direction 14 is going is a solid direction that many people did ask for and want. I have played FF games up to 11 but didn't like much that came after. I'm not loyal to any company or entity. If I stop enjoying 14 I'll simply leave. If I see a game I enjoy more and it requires more of my time I'll leave then too. As it stands I love 14 and the direction it's been going (not happy about the housing prices.) and I didn't like what I saw from 1.0-1.23 at all nor the direction it was going in there so I'm against any suggestions where people are asking for it to go back to that. I do respect your views and opinions. I do not respect those that keep screaming to completely change FF14 into something it isn't, however. Take some things from 1.0-1.23 or 11? Sure. Change it's core concepts? No.
