And it was so "well received" that its producer was fired and they had to spend a whole year programming the game from scratch to fix that mess.
So yeah... REALLY GOOD suggestion there, mate.

    EDIT:

OK, fine, I'll rephrase it: Final fantasy XIV 1.x
v1.23 was made by Yoshida, and was just a hold-up to give people something to play, and also to close-up the storyline, AFTER the decision of scrapping the game was already made.
I say he did a decent job giving the game a last breath before coming down, but still wasn't well received.

My whole point with this post was to point out that if you have a FFXIV that looks like FFXI, you get FFXIV prior to ARR. And we all have seen how that turned out.
FFXIV 1.0 was bad due to serveral bugs that should have been worked out, a terribad UI, server issues, crafting issues (not it was too slow, just you needed level 30~ish items from another to make a level 5 armor), no sense of endgame content (dungeons and non-dungeon stuff) and other issues as well!

1.23 set the game on a new course that was a sort of good medium for alot of folks then 2.1 comes out and a lot of disappointment arrives with it. We'll see what 2.2 brings!

no.... 1.23 was a bandage on a terrible idea, to tide people over till ARR could be finished. No matter what people want to believe, 1.23 could not have done much further then it did, it was a dead end.

Didn't say it was perfect just a step in the right direction! I think we can all agree on that. But still with 1.23 the game became somewhat stable.

yeah it was stable, and playable, but some think that it would have flourished if it was built up on.

And I would consider myself in that crowd.

I don't see the point of adding all that stuff if they where just going to throw it away/leave it on the sidelines to rot.

I was thinking on this subject and like it a lot. I would also like to have them generate elite mobs at random on trash packs (kind of like in diablo 3 where certain enemies got an all around increase in power level + added abilities that made them ridiculous). This at least would make the runs to the bosses less of a face roll.

no I did not like it, I felt it was still trash. and no, it was a brick wall, the crystal engine that it used was limiting in many ways for an MMORPG and should have never been used. The crafting was tedious, and so was the double leveling (removed at 1.23 of course) Crafting was flawed horribly, and the game was broken everywhere..... It could not be fixed, and is why we have ARR.

Don't delude people, we have ARR because SE is a business and wanted to make back their money. WoW clones make money, still, which is sad. ARR should be called "A Vision Abandoned." What they were -trying- to do was wonderful, but now we have another game that's the same as every other game. How do you think they built a game from the ground up so quickly? Maybe they have the best game building team in the world!!! The real answer is, it was easy because there is nothing remarkable about this game except for Final Fantasy themes and references to other Final Fantasies; and the only reason they can make money with these things is because they're intellectual-property-type, protected things.

The game was taking great strides toward being fixed in 1.23 and everyone who bothered to look could see that.

I think what he was getting at is that with 2.0's new and flexible engine, a system like 1.23 could of been put in and expanded on as opposed to the new one. If you look at the first concept of FFXIV 2.0, you will see they used 1.23's system to show off what it will look like. I personally favor 2.1's system over 1.23's, but to say it couldn't be expanded on and to work in the game would be false. If you think it was a better or worse system lies down in opinion. 1.23 did work well for what it was, and people can debate all day if it would of been a better system or not, but we won't ever know that at this point, so it is all up in speculation.
