like i have already said, the trouble is not to add new recipe...it's to give a purpose to the crafter.
materia and crafting have not real purpose nor are needed. you talk to equip reroll, often we will simply get stuff from dungeon and use this.
i can understand why they don't want craft to be at the same level... but at the same time i feel sad... because, it killing the craft.

they need to give a purpose to the crafting... like the fighting and magical class must defeat the harder content, they must find a way to reward people that level up the craft and gathering.

Well now the astral/rose gold/gryphonskin accessories I sort of understand, being able to use them on multiple classes. But they are still ridiculously expensive, in the neighborhood of 200k on my server (at least prior to 2.1, haven't looked recently).

On Tonberry, 2-star crafted accessories are around 40k - 50k per piece now. Materia melding on the other hand...

Confirmed with Disciple of the Hand lead

Currently there are no plans to add any new low/mid level crafting recipes.
We designed FFXIV so that gear obtained from dungeons is more effective than crafted items.

For their first class, players can gain equipment from the main quests so we don't think they should face any problems. But we believe there are other chances to use low-level gear, such as creating materia or equipping them when leveling a second class.

Low level market dead because leveling from 1-50 is pretty fast, you can skip low level gear progression.

I honestly can't figure out why the game even has crafting or gathering now at this point after reading the official reply. Just go ahead and patch it all out and call the game Final Fantasy XIV: A Dungeon Repeated, and leave it at that. Seriously though a lot of us out in the game enjoy gathering and crafting find it to be a rewarding experience because it /IS/ fun and through all the MMO's I've personally played this is the first that acts like it wants to punish those that enjoy these activities.

Where as other games /REWARD/ craft and gathering roles. Be it unique and useful goods to extensive tradeskill quests similar to the relic quest but in terms of crafting. The older 1999 era games did this right and here we are in 2014 and we can't get it right here? Seriously between this and the housing issues Wildstar is sounding more and more fun by the minute >< I'm sorry but offering nothing but repeating the same couple dungeons for 6000 times isn't fun at all ><

My time active in Guild Wars 2? At the end game crafted /orange/ gear was equal to stats as dungeon level /orange/ gear. Just in a different assessment. If the player wanted Stat A more, they did dungeons, if the player wanted Stat B more? They went after crafted gear. Min-maxing all the way it stuck by that crafted gear and dungeon gear were equally useful at the end game.

My time in old EQ? The best visable raid armor was in fact all crafted armor. However it required certain raid augmentations (materia) to maximize its effectiveness.

That's just two of the games that got crafting right at the end game and still having a place among the raiders and hardcore endgamers. Why is it so different here?

Sorry but I'm going to rant here. You've made huge mistakes in your game design.

Crafting is useless level 1-49. You've made it so easy to level a craft it takes about a day to go from 1 to 50. You can do it with a level 1 item never crafting a thing. What is this? There is nothing to sell anyhow. The furniture market is garbage. Anyone that can afford a house can afford to have all crafts 50 and make their own junk. SE how did you screw this up so bad? When was it you decided to take solid working systems from 1.23 and turn them into trash? When was it that SE the maker of FFXI decided to chuck their past of creating challenging video games and throw it all away in favor of "everybody wins" WoW design?

I've been there since day one.. and I'm really unhappy with the direction this game is going..

Gathering and Crafting making money? No

Why? Because they refuse to make it more useful than crafting furniture that majority can't buy or won't buy because most don't own a house. If they do own a house they have a master crafter already.

What this game is slowly going towards to? GRIND

Yoshi P replied Grind your way to earn at least 3 month for 3 - 4 million for a small fc house.
Grind your way to earn the bis gear which have nothing to do with money.
Grind your day away to earn 20k gil but minus the traveling fee and repair fee you'll save about 5k gil a day.
Lastly sell runs to make money from people who don't really have money besides real money.

That's it then, goodbye. Thankfully the Elder Scrolls beta tests starts on Friday.
I totally can't wait for Elder Scrolls online! I'll certainly be jumping to that when it's released on the ps4. So tired with all the ps3 issues for FFXIV that i just don't feel will ever be fixed. Freezes and game crashes should not be happening still after over 4 months in. And there is no word of a fix for it. So if Elder scrolls can have good running servers with barely any lag and little to no disconnects/crashes, they already beat FFXIV in my eyes.
