It's ok putting so little emphasis on crafting is a countermeasure so RMT don't run rampart everyday shouting, botting and controlling the mark-oh.

Well that is discouraging. What's the point of even having low level recipes then if they're meant to be worthless?

How crafted gear should work across all levels for the best of both worlds is, you level a new job, as you are going through you buy gear, but then you start doing dungeons and slowly acquire better gear, this way the crafted gear is in demand as a starting point for gearing classes whilst people are slowly getting dungeon gear.
The problem we have is vendors sell all decent crafted gear, therefore people are buying any stopgap gear there. GC gear is also a problem, it doesn't take long to get seals, so rather than spend gil on crafted gear you can gear using vastly superior gear, especially when you can just equip it. What I believe should happen is you have crafted and GC gear that are very similar in stats giving the player the choice "do I grind seals or farm gil to level xxx job?" RPers could choose GC gear to represent whilst they might buy crafted gear seeing themselves as more freelance. This then would give value to all kinds of gear.
We also need to have the bare minimum gear available at vendors where we can, this then encourages players to use the markets more and allows crafters and gatherers to make money.
On my server low level items seem more valuable and in demand than anything high level. Currently level 1-20 HQ jewelry is going for 1-2k a piece, all main and off hand weapons for crafters between 1-30 seem to be around 3-8k, and crafting/gathering gear is consistently around 5-8k a piece HQ.

The problem is that all of those items probably have terrible sales volume; the price is high because even though there's some demand it's hardly worth making.

Confirmed: Crafters useless 1-49

So useless that I made 500K on it. Crafting has its utility, the problem is that crafters want their crafted product to be a customer's "main" gear. That's not going to happen. It's for customer's alt gear, a complerely different market but one where they can make a big contribution.. With the abundancy of tombs now from the recent patch I wonder if 2-star gear requiring tomb mats will come down in price and have higher volume.
Biggest problem is most gear is either sold on an npc given in a quest or sold by the grand company making crafting near useless.

The mat prices have definitely went down on Leviathan server. Prior to patch they sold for 15k-20k each (which is pretty ridiculous IMO), I just recently sold some for 4k each, which is still overpriced in my opinion. Not that I mind making the money, I just think they're stupidly overpriced. So useless that I made 500K on it. Well now that crafting armor has absolutely no future, the pricing will likely go down to no longer be worth making. Enjoy those WP runs! The mat prices have definitely went down on Leviathan server.
