About shards.. Can someone explain please, who farms them (except bots ofc)? I can't even imagine a situation, that some person decided to spend an evening farming them for sale: "Ok, lets farm 1000 shards. No exp, 15-20k profit." There are a lot of items, that are cost more per item (depends on server of course).

Can some one come here and say: "Yes, I farm shards for sale"?

I farm them from time to time. Its gotten bad for pricing tho with people undercutting so the prices go so low as to not be worth the time.
Same with crystals, normally selling around 90-100 but with people undercutting by 20-50 at a time driving the prices down so low its not worth the time.
Before the price wars I was up to 2.7 mil Gil, mostly made from selling shards/crystals
After donating 675k to the FC and spending on vanya gear im down to around 200k

You farm shards because a ton of shards get sold, enough to guarantee that you can farm 1000 or even 10000 and sell them fairly quickly. Other stuff attracts higher prices per unit but if you were to put 1000 of them up it would probably not sell fast enough and you will just end up tanking the market and starting a price war.

This is what I meant by volume of sales. High volume is needed because even though an item is worth say 300, that doesn't mean that you can just make 1000 of them and make 300,000 gold. There needs to be demand to match the amount you need to sell to make some decent money, and you can measure this by looking at the sales history and seeing how much is selling.

You don't really make low level gear to sell to people. You just make it for levequests that require them to get better XP (and decent gil for your trouble as well). Thever never was a market for low level items as vendors sell basic gear for a reasonable cost and whatever they can't provide you find along the way.

The money to be made is at high levels only, with a possible exception to cooking.

Only broke people farm shards to sell. With a good group you can make 30k+ in WP. A lot more fun than standing around smacking a tree and more gil in it.

If I am bored/watching TV I will gather crafting mats that people use a lot. 1 or 2 stacks of each and they always sell within a day.

Confirmed with Disciple of the Hand lead

Currently there are no plans to add any new low/mid level crafting recipes.
We designed FFXIV so that gear obtained from dungeons is more effective than crafted items.

For their first class, players can gain equipment from the main quests so we don't think they should face any problems. But we believe there are other chances to use low-level gear, such as creating materia or equipping them when leveling a second class.

I don't know about most people here, but in most MMOs I've noticed leveling a craft tends to be at a loss. In most MMOs the market is dominated by maximum level crafters in such a way that the person leveling it up has no possible means to make cash. Higher levels can HQ things far far easier so you can't possibly compete.

I don't understand what the logic is to have crafter classes when the crafted gear is deliberately designed to be inferior to the rest of the game's content. If it's because it's too easy to level up the crafting classes, that's the dev's fault, not ours.

Not to say it's entirely useless, but it's pretty limited. It's not just the low level market that is dying. As it stands, only really accessories have a market since very few dungeons actually drop any and the lv 50 gear has a limited venue as well because it's so easy to get Philosophy seals these days. Dyes are a kind of hit and miss since vendors sell the majority of them, even the beast tribes do too. PvP has seal gear so crafted gear there isn't much used either. It's useful to fill gear gaps but that isn't much adopted by the game's population when you can fill those gaps from NPC vendors.

Furniture is also not really a "thing" yet, though that may change in the future, and I can only hope.
