Tanking Bone Dragon at the Edge

I've seen several people mention this in CT runs, and in the last run, one tank voked BD and dragged him to the edge.

His healers refused to heal him and the dragon returned to the middle.

I just wanted to ask, what's the benefit of tanking him at the edge?

Tanking him at the very north will let the other tanks drag the skeles to the far ends of the green platforms. This allows more room for error and will let the DPS ensure all heavied skeletons will die (hopefully)

Nobody else can possible get hit by his breath move if you tank him on the edge. I'm not sure why anyone would intentionally tank him in the center.

I think the main reason is because of the eyes which spawn in the last round.
The skeletons have to die far away from the dragon to prevent them from reaching it too fast and go boom.
The eyes during the last round are just tanked while the dragon is killed.

Also, the conal attack the dragon does is no danger for the raid that way.

I guess any position is fine as long as skeletons don't reach him, nobody gets hit by his "charm" attack (forgot name) and everyone survives the eyes during last phase.

Thanks to that "guide" topic someone made about tanking it in center (which roughly 3-4% of the population do and rest all do at edge), we are going to see a heck of a lot more derping at bone dragon.

Another advantage of tanking at the far edge is you can drag skeletons nearly double the distance from the dragon, compared to if it was in the center. So long as the tanks are disciplined in not stacking the skeletons, this gives you much more safety in none of them reaching the dragon to explode.

I'm pretty sure its regional thing for tanking either at the edge or the center since at JP data center we hardly tank the dragon at the edge. Say about 20+ run at CT, I only saw it once that tank drag the dragon to the edge. So do not be quick to assume that everyone is doing it your way.

Tank at the edge have advantage like what people have stated, but disadvantage is it that its hard on melee. Tank at the center has a lot of space to move around but with bad coordination, it could result in the cone breath and skellies problem. /shrug either way is fine for me

It's just like Garuda extreme that I saw 2 strategies that either splitting it into 2 groups or 3 groups. It really depends on which strategy do you prefer really.

In all of my CT runs, I have never seen anyone tank it at the edge always in the center...I've also only had 2 wipes on that boss and it was the first week the instance was released.
I've actually never even heard of this till reading this thread

Before people start calling each other stupid or noob or whatever, please let's just agree that different strategies work for different people, and there's no single right strategy in this case.

Let's stay on topic for the OP, and avoid bashing the tanking in the middle strategy.

The disadvantages at tanking at the edge FAR out weigh any perceived advantages.

For one, the skeletons take a direct path to the dragon.. which means they spend a lot of time in the poison areas... in addition, there is 6 skeletons and when placing them on the far side platforms.. you cause the angle of the room to change which can cause them to cross paths and get the speed buff. In addition the melee have much farther to run to dps the skeletons

Another is the melee have the problem of trying to dps the dragon and ranged an healers have limited areas to stand on

The center is how the encounter was designed and it was designed well.... pull the skels to the outside.. the path to the center leave areas to dps, good angles to avoid skels bunching, lots of spots for dps to stand on

It's both ways to do this indeed, and both work just as well.

The biggest issue I run into in CT is hero tanks that don't communicate and do whatever they like.
Which usually ends up in a very annoying but at the same time hilarious skeleton ping pong.
