Overlapping AOEs, Dark Halo or Grim Halo or whatever it's called
strange, I have never seen him tanked in the middle. I have always wanted to try this however. As a healer, i find it a little frustrating how everyone is out of my heal range, running all over the arena. Tanking in the middle would keep everyone a little closer.
Tanking at the edge certainly made sense the first week or two when there was to many people how did not know how the fight worked. but now that 95% of the people kinda know whats going on, center sounds like a better choice.
I've run Crystal Tower about 30 times and have always seen them tank it at the edge.
Anytime someone tried middle, everybody told them to take it north.
Ill tell you exactly why you should tank him in the centre, first and foremost because most DF groups in CT are absolute retards, couple that with the fact that tanks will still only pull them to the edges closest to the dragon and when that happens you nullify all melee from killing the skeles due to them running along the floor instead of the platforms.
Pulling to the edge is just horrible unless you somehow have a premade or a very competent df group. Both of which are very rare in CT.
This is a worthless thread, CT is so easy you could tank him in the poison and be fine.
As far as I've ever done in the Japanese data centre it's always center.
I've always tanked him in the North.
Tanking in the center implies that all skellies must die simultaneously as they all take the same amount of time to reach the dragon (half the arena length). If the skellies are placed correctly then it's not so bad, when they are not then it can get rough.
If he's in the north, then it's easy to prioritize the closest skelly first (usually travels slightly less then 1/2 arenas length) then shift back to the next two (a bit more then 1/2 the arena length) followed by the next two (@3/4th the length) and finally the last (Full Length of arena). On average, this gives a good 50% bonus to the time needed to kill them as well as an established priority order on what to focus first. In the case where one or two die in a bad spot (usually in the center platform) then you still have (generally) half the arena length to handle it.
The only ones who suffer from this are Monks and they can usually find at least one Skelly to attack within the arena. Dragoons have the jumps and lance throw as a desperation move. Plus, the poison is very easy to heal through as no one else should be taking damage during that time, so melee can take the risk of jumping in here and there if need be.
It's just gives more room for error, other then that it doesn't really matter.
Always remember the Silver Rule:
"Treat others as they treat you!" ...or something like that.
Players just do it because they feel safer but there's really no need to pull it to the edge. The dragons aoe breath is easily stunnable and grabbing adds is just as easy when it's in the center.
