This is a very helpful post for first timers! Thanks for taking the time to write it out!
I hope it helps move this games community in a better direction!

However, if possible- could you include the beastmen dailies and the duty roulette in your guide.
The only reason I mention this is because with patch 2.1 it has become much easier to farm Philo tomestones.
At lvl 40+ you can start doing the Beastmen Daily quests for the Sylphs and the Amalj'aa. They will reward players with exp, gil, and tomestones.
Once said players hit 50 participating in the Duty Roulette for the Low Level Dungeons or even Storyline missions will award the players with plenty of tomestones.

These two methods in addition to your suggestions can help new level 50's obtain tome gear with relative ease.

Wonderful guide first of all. It really set a foundation for me starting my lvl 50 quest. I have a question, its dumb but its been bugging me for a while. Can any DoH meld materials to any weapon regardless of the job? I’m asking because I am starting my relic for SMN but don’t have a DoH in lvl 50 yet.

No. In the item information at the lower part it says what DoH at what level is needed for melding materia into the item. But you can have other players do the melding for you. You can right click on a player and select "request meld". You will provide all the materials, the item never leaves your inventory and the other one does the melding. There is also the possibility that you pay the melder gil in the interface.
