Updated with a summary of some terms at the end.
Elitist has taken on a new meaning in MMORPGs, usually with a negative connotation. That doesn't change the actual meaning of the word. I like the OP and title.
e·lit·ist
/əˈlētist,āˈlētist/
noun
adjective: elitist; noun: elitist; plural noun: elitists1. a person who believes that a system or society should be ruled or dominated by an elite.
I believe that if you want to 'rule or dominate' the endgame, you need to have the most 'elite' gear in the game.
The alternative, is grops that fail due to some combination of lack of gear and skill. As of now, there is no simple, universally accepted measure or report for player skill - so gear is the standard.
just giving this a bump from page 28 to the front. i reached 50 3 days ago and remembered this thread, so i went searching for it. maybe it will help someone else too.
Great post will e a great help for fresh 50's lvl
About ifrit and garuda HM - I done them with relic weapon quest (still did not got any weapon from those bastards)
But basic morale :More LV (HQ) gear you have - less problem you and your party will have
This is incredibly useful. I'm at lv 46 right now and have been very confused by a lot of the terminology and where to start once I finish the main story quests. This answers a lot of my questions.

Awesome Post, Very informative, wish i had stumbled across this when my WHM hit 50...
How I see the new abilities:
Asylum - Get ready for my holy spam because that's the only healing you gonna get.
Aero III - I guess I should put some dots up before holy spamming.
Assize - I need more MP to spam holy even more, also stop getting hit in the face.
Tetragrammaton - I guess I should heal that tank now.
Stone III - There's less than 3 mobs left alive. - Ragns Meuhie
No joke, SE should have this kind of info as a help window popup as players approach endgame ...the amount of people you meet in endgame equipped with lv 20 - 30 accessories is just cringe worthy.

This is a great post. I approached endgame much with the same plan of attack. I think the only thing I would change is to bump starting your relic quest higher up on the list. You could feasibly put it after "Finish the main story." I think I am just nit-picking though. If you're going to run Ifrit and Garuda, you might as well progress your relic quest with them, instead of farming them out and having to do it again for the quest. You've said it a million times, so I'm probably just echoing here, but just as AF is suitable for AK, so it is true for Chimera and Hydra also (though you probably want a couple of DL for Hydra?).
As a side note (and this seems like a great place to leave here), I'd recommend watching strat videos for the primals (possibly even AK too, since Demon Wall and Antabo...*cough*...da >.> requires some movement and coordination).
There is an amazing channel called MTQCapture http://www.youtube.com/user/MTQcapture... her guides are informative and easy to follow.. I find that people are okay with first timers if you toss in a "I watched a youtube strat video on it." Probably because then they don't have to type a wall of text explaining the fight O.o Really though, the videos have helped prepare me for battles, immensely. I always feel nervous going into a fight I don't know. Watching a strat helps me feel more comfortable.

Great guide, really helpfull and well written.
thanx
"till sea swallows all"

Amazing guide! I just hit 50 a week ago and I've been floundering, and hesitant to continue. I especially appreciate the advice of wearing a piece or two of DL gear to avoid grief from DF on WP and AK (woo, using acronyms like a BAUWSE!)
