I agree with most of them but the first few. I believe stats and mechanics should never, ever be disclosed by a game dev, and part of the fun is for players to figure it out. Even if it's not fun for some, I still don't think devs should tell us what the exact gains are from stats. The others, especially the chocobo and battle music ones are very valid concerns that I also share.

There is zero logic to this. How is not understanding how the game works fun? All there is to do at the level cap is increase your gear, and when you have no idea if 11 determination is better than 11 skill speed, it becomes frustrating. There is no reason I should have to consult posts from months ago to figure out how much of a primary stat = 1 weapon damage, or how much a secondary stat equals a primary stat.

Why even have gear with stats if all the numbers on your character sheet are arbitrary and mean nothing to the player?

That is for the players to figure out.. At least that's what I feel about it. They do mean something, but it's not handed to you, you gotta find out. But of course my opinion does not represent everyone, so feel free to disagree..

I agree with your OP completely, but just for the sake of argument, there are people who enjoy doing math and discovering BiS items on their own time. For these people, having the math essentially handed to you might make the game less appealing. I had a lot of fun personally trying to discover damage formulas for ranger in FFXI. To say that there is "zero logic" in doing this is fairly ignorant. You're acting as though people can't figure out how the game works on their own time, which is certainly incorrect. SE doesn't need to spoon-feed us stats for us to figure out damage formulas.

It is blatantly obvious, if you can do any sort of math whatsoever, that 11 determination is better than 11 skill speed.

Has nothing to do with the ability to do math. To a player playing the game, equipping an item with 11 determination versus an identical item with 11 skill speed will make practically zero difference to the numbers they see above a monsters head. And there is zero information in the game detailing what those numbers mean exactly.

Yes, you could argue that some people find it "fun" to go attack a test dummy 1,000 times, swap gear and hit it another 1,000 times, and then enter all that data into a spreadsheet and then graph it. But I would say 99.99% of the player doesn't have the time, knowledge, or desire to crunch numbers just to figure out what a stat does.

I recently leveled the Paladin class, and while leveling I came across a ton of shields. Which was better than the next? I had no freaking clue. Is shield block better than shield rate? Should I just always pick the one that has the highest number? Am I supposed to stop leveling and go out into the field and let a sheep beat on me for 45 minutes to find out?

The answer is no. They need to give us our characters raw stats (Crit %, Block %, etc.) so we can make smart gear decisions without having to consult a spreadsheet or compendium on game mechanics.

The answer might be no to you, who cares only for the best build out there and wants it to be handed down to you. But if that does happen, what would be the significance of any multiple i90 gears at all? We all know that x is better than y cause it's been said so, why bother? But like I said, you have your point of view and so does others, so I'll leave it at that.

You're missing Omni's point. Like, completely missing.

He isn't saying, "Hey, I want you to hand me my BIS list so I know exactly how to gear." He is saying he wants to be able to make informed decisions about the way that he gears, instead of having to sort of "guesstimate," which is what is happening right now.

Even if, for argument's sake, you're right and he just wants to see that ~16 Crt is 1% critical, and X and X% dmg and X adds X and X and blahblahblah... Guess what! It is still handing the BiS list to people. There are games like that, and in those games where you don't have to guess, everyone ends up in the same gear set or "you're doin it wrong!"

ARR is far more forgiving for figuring out statistical weights than XI was, I'd call it almost downright transparent. I say almost because people have not yet nailed down the exact damage formula. In a game where you have all the knowledge, you'll never have breakthroughs that completely rebuild a job's gear set because someone figured out a magic new thing. Some people may hate that, but how stagnant would a game be if the status quo never changed?

It doesn't necessarily make it simpler, but does tell you when you make a gear choice that has no substantial benefit. Good example is these 2 quotes.

Squenix has always had their stats break off into tiers and don't have gradual increases in small numbers. In this case if 11 determination doesn't increase the total to the next % breakpoint but the 11 skill speed does then the skill speed actually has a benefit since the 11 determination will have no effect on actual damage dealt. If both raise the value high enough for another % then the determination wins, and if neither raises it then it's up in the air. It does no one any good just giving us a bulk number when I can obviously use a calculator and add them up myself. What I want to see is whether I can get another % increase in a stat without having to put the new item on and beat on a training dummy with a parser for an hour.
