How did the community become this toxic?

Other than that it plays like a single player jrpg with co-op rather than a mmorpg. You know why people remember FFXI community so fondly, despite the drama and shiet? Because the game world was dangerous, everything was designed to force people into cooperation. Those who couldn't deal with grouping with other people wouldn't go past level 20.

Exactly! This game is all about individual play, but for the 5ish fights where you do have to work together, if you struggle, the other people yell at you because they fee like you are hurting THEIR game, and slowing THEM down. In FFXI everyone had to work together to progress, so everyone learned their job so they could hold up their end of the battle, and everyone helped each other to progress. I don't see this game lasting much longer honestly.

I know this, once elder scrolls online comes out you are gonna see a big dip in players on this game.

Here is one big reason that's killing it for me, FFXI was all about being geared, this game is becoming the same thing, You are after better gear that is your focus and less story line and quest to progress.

Then you have Titan Hard mode you cant win because people leave and when one person leaves they all leave, you have the AH in shambles, people are getting abusive with those kicks I have seen people kick someone for absolutely nothing. game is going down hill quick plus content is rinse - rewash fights and dungeons get repetitive.

No matter how much we players look back and wish for something like FFXI again, at the same time Im glad we dont have the grind fest that the game was, Im not in my mid 20's anymore, I have a really busy life now, I dont have 6 months to grind my character to 75 anymore. I understand that the world and the community of 11 and games before that is pretty much gone. We came from the world of MUDS and pre WoW. Its like saying I wish it was still 1900 and I did my wash in a bucket and darned socks by candle light. We can wish for the days of old or we can move on. Just because this game plays like a single player doesnt mean pockets of community and good players dont exist. We do. We make our own community, we ignore these loud mouth kiddies that make you want to punch baby seals.

How did the community become this toxic? Simple, we let it. So we either take it back or we just roll over and complain all the way about back in the day... I dont know about you but Im fighting to eek out my corner of community on my server, what are you doing?

I helped a couple randoms, along with a friend of mine who recently got the game, with the storyline Ifrit battle.

I usually stick with lower level stuff myself and don't have too much problem with the way people act. Sure, you find a stinker every now and then, and quiet groups sometimes, but I've also ended up in funny and friendly groups.
I'm one of the people who has a lot of trouble with the latency and lag, so I've spent a lot of time avoiding dungeons that I know will be a problem. I've found when I do the higher level stuff people seem to get way less friendly. (Honestly, a lot of the hire level stuff just isn't that appealing to me, anyway. "Farm this over and over to get this gear so you can farm that over and over to get that gear..." Isn't that bound to attract elitism?)

so far in this thread I have read countless posts about how bad the community is. While that may be true in some cases, there is one particular area I want to touch upon: PUGs.

I have only had one truly negative memorable experience in this game with regards to PUGging. I was in CBM Hard Mode, I shat the bed on the part where the hecatonchiers break through the walls and the bombs try to kill the miners who are breaking the rock. Everyone flipped a shit on me (it totally was my fault, not gonna argue that) but it went from 0 to 11 in the span of 2 minutes.

Other than that, I have not had a single bad experience when PUGging. Im not going to preach about how people can make groups better and the old adage that "you were the common factor in all those 'sh*t' groups", but I am wondering if its just a thing on my server where people are generally all about being a positive community member. Last week was my first attempt at T1. I made the party myself, telling everyone in it it was my first time, no one even batted an eye (and I was nervous about that after hearing so many horror stories from other people about PUGging coil). We didn't down Caduceus, but we all had fun, no one got upset, it was a great time.

Maybe its a problem on the bigger servers?
