It's really not that hard to track player numbers if you really want to - The Japanese do it just fine lol. The way people did it before the game told you was keeping track of search numbers since even if you're in "another world", it will still register you in search from what I seen. So it only really takes someone who really want to know the servers numbers time and effort.

Also, how do you know the servers would never be "that low" if someone else simply can't know the population numbers...?

Part of the reason the duty finder exists is to ensure the game is still very playable even with differering population sizes.

Although I hate to say this, they could however borrow a page from WoW's book and offer limited free transfers from high pop to low pop servers. But there will always be differences in population size between servers, and there's nothing wrong with that. some people prefer a quieter setting while others love the hustle and bustle.

Honestly, this isn't a good idea only because you're going to make it worse for other people, like a snowball effect. The high pop servers are full enough as it is (For every server with a low population, there is one with a high enough population to have login queues) and more people transferring to them is just going to increase lag. Free High to low pop server transfers is a good way to reduce this problem.

Do you really enjoy the lag? Everyone wants to be on the highpop server but there comes a point where adding more people degrades the user experience.

Additionally, most servers including the high pop ones don't have any housing built up yet. I'm on one of the highest pop servers and the housing areas are still empty. Nobody wants to pay the outrageous prices. Thus, moving to a higher pop server isn't going to let you see the housing any sooner.

How could you not know that a brand new server wasn't going to have as many people on it as already established servers?

you changed your reply after i already replied back to you, and dont chop up my reply and make it look like something else, as you see the sentence right after i stated" Zalera server is a ghost town. I rolled on this server 'accidentally' on the server launch date, but even then i didnt know it was low pop....." and continued on..... sheesh i hate trolls like you that try to make it look like im attempting to say something else.

Could have logged on during non-peak hours.

That being said, something like that tends to happen with a newly released MMO, that ends up being surprisingly popular at (pre)launch and, once the gaming locusts have consumed their fill (and don't feel like waiting for more content to be released and give the new MMO a chance to build like over the years like both EQs, UO & WoW have) they move on to the next MMO (which will be ESO).

If this 745 players number is true, you can't forget the "timezones" people do work sleep and other things with their life.

745 players on during your playtime, then when your not on, another 700+ players from other regions come on and play the game also.

I would say You server in "total" has 1,800-2,000 players playing ( at different times of the day) but that's just a guess, assuming that another 700+ players come on when you are not on.

Actually MANY WOW players were on low pop. servers and enjoyed the lack of competition for mobs, crafting, etc, they HATE CRZ and Connected Realms, it was largely the PVP whiners that made Blizzard implement these 'not server mergers' techs. to avoid the bad PR traditional server mergers would cause.

Yeah i figured its obviously not prime time when i did this....... and yeah that figure sounds correct, giving that two other servers i checked had more than DOUBLE what was on Zalera at the same time, i'll still consider it low population.

lol yeah but wow's low population servers are 7-8000 players, and on weird times (tuesday at 12pm) there would probably be 2-3k logged in, still quadruple what my low pop FFXIV server is.

As with any new item (PC or console game) people tend to play in the beginning and leave as time progresses, be it work, school, home, another game, disinterest, whatever. These things happen. Also SE did offer free world transfers for the first week in October because of player creation snafu.

It willing be great if people did move to less populated servers, but the people still playing probably have friends and FC colleagues they don't want to leave. I had a friend who wanted me to join Leviathan, but I told him it wouldn't make sense to join a heavily populated world while going up an underpopulated world (at the time, Coeurl).

These things just happens. Honestly if SE did give away another free transfer week it might be good, especially for FCs that don't wanna pay 50 million Gil for a small house when they could pay 4 million on a underpopulated world. Then again, maybe people just don't wanna leave either.

Still, 745 is little. If you compare it to their previous mmo, where there used to be 3k+ most of the time. Of course, that game had no auto kick. But fairly sure 2/3rd of the servers weren't afk all the time.

Hmm, could also be FFXI had no "nation" servers, and it was always prime time for some country.

Using Search player function. Search each area independently and added up.
Doesn't really give an accurate display. It won't show people who are in Duty Finder and it also is bugged. We have a couple of FC members who don't show up on it at all even when I'm standing right next to them.

Malboro is always crowded with people in Mor Dhona and Limsa especially during peak hours. Sometimes there seems like too many people are around.
