I'd say the original FFXIV tanking had more to do with the unplayable, glitchy mess upon release than the actual style of game. Of course it did get better but how many people, myself included, never bothered to try it again after the first month or two?

It's for that reason I don't understand why they didn't just slap there new graphics on XI and remaster XI, XI isn't even that hard anymore Eorzea could have just been a new continent.
I reactivated my XI account yesterday, plenty of people still playing and demanding for a graphics boost.

WoW as much as I am not into it has done the right thing, there revamping there games graphics slowly but surely they'll have the same game with all it's content remaining + awesome graphics.
Thats the path SE should have taken, XI-2 not FF14-fail then FF14-A Realm Raped

Yeah, I would much rather take longer acquiring my gear with more changeling content thats more rewarding and actually feels like I achieved something rather than walk around with the same gear everyone else has because everything is at arms reach. I also agree about unnecessary gear, how many pointless weapons we will never use do we need?

Extreme Primals should have gear sets not more weapons... SE we have enough damn weapons, seriously!

Hell even make a lvl 99 set for end game that isn't easy to get, the coil gear isn't even that much better than the stuff you get from weekly points, it doesn't even seem worth the effort.

As far as Square Enix MMO Game evolutions go ARR is defiantly a regression, they started a new game then started that new game from square one, evolution would have been remastering XI instead of making the first FFXIV or simply expanding onto FFXIV 1.23 not starting all over again. TWO TIMES!

If you think that ARR is moving forward in MMO evolutions let me ask you this what exactly do you think about when someone says something has evolved? That it has become a better form of it's previous state, if ARR is evolution then it seems to be evolving in the wrong direction.

SE should have stuck with what they know and do best and evolved into something new and original, ARR isn't evolution it's just the same old crap we played in many MANY games before it.

tbh, I don't think this game will live long if they keep doing this
and Like Dannythm, i loved Tanaka san game more than the Yoshi copy past game =)
Fully, it's lame to have your hard earned gear replaced constantly, thats what ARR is like, it's become a game of catch the chicken. Don't catch your chickens before they're hatched, you might blow all your long waited points on equipment that by the time you earn will be replaced with updated armor.

Oh yeah but Square Enix put a cap on how many points you can hold forcing you to spend your points... LOL Ahhh the plot thickens, SE you are pure evil at heart.

The games so dull it needs intense limitations and gimmick mounts and pets just so they can keep the subs rolling over, you don't even need mounts anymore... there is no point to the open world once your maxed and don't tell me gathering is useful for anything because crafting is pointless now so is gil. The only use for gil now is over priced housing, in FFXI that is free and everyone gets there own house! In FFXI gil was never useless you were always finding ways to improve yourself threw currency, buying spells, armor that wasn't junk, pop items for NM's, items and food you actually had to use because the content was constructed that way.

Why isn't there lvl 90 craftable armor sets that you can equip materia onto? I know I keep saying Verity but seriously come on, we need more Verity here, badly. Crazy armor you can craft and buy with gil is what makes crafting useful in the first place without that it's just a waste of time and resources.

Not sure about when you last looked at it, but the Expansion the Cataclysm updated much of the Original Vanilla game zones to make them more modern.

And even now, they're only just updating the player models and animations, Much of the older art remains still in the game.

Yeah that was what I noticed, the updates on the player models but you know thats just the beginning, I doubt they will stop there.

Granted, so far, XIV has no original content to speak of (it's pretty much all content from other games that Square Enix has tried to adapt to their world), but I think it would be interesting if the development team tried that approach.
They did... it was FF14 the orrigonal.. people didn't like it.
I was in love with it ; ; and I miss it (T.T)
I want to play it so badly RRRRRAAAGE!

Yep thats why completely remaking the game and everything about it was taking it too far, by doing that they eliminated all the good things FF14 had to offer when the only things letting it down could have been solved and still could have been re-released as ARR and a better finished product.

Just to state what has been said.

You guys know you are a minority right. I have seen what a loud minority can do to a MMO and it ain't pretty.

Guys any MMO that caters for the hardcore does not last or sustains a small population. Majority of the people hate games in which only the minority holds all the good stuff.

It is one thing to have a minority have tons of rare vanity items. But a whole different ball game to make top tier weapons super hard to get.

I agree that FF14 has ways to go, but making it harder and harder will just drive more and more people away.

Except casuals don't stick around anyway they move onto the next best game when it comes out and when that happens FF14 will die off faster than you can say WTF HAPPENED and there won't be any real MMO players around to keep it alive because SE is pushing us away.

Doesn't have to be totally hardcore and many wow clones have turned f2p. Just taking ideas and improving upon them isn't = hardcore. This game lacks complexity we all know that.

Exactly, people say "casuals keep the mmo up" but they really don't, considering how very little they actually play / jump to another mmo. It's the hardcore people that pay every month for years that keep the game going.

Couldn't agree more, well said. More complex game play, yes please, if your a baby you shouldn't be playing an MMO anyway.

    Um, no?

It's the hardcores that blow through everything (no matter how much content devs are capable of pushing out per update) and start whining and moaning that there's nothing to do because they feel like they already finished the game, and thus unsubscribe. Casuals are definitely the ones that keep MMORPGs going.
