Guess the housing prices answer the thread title quite nicely.

The only thing I spend Gil on anymore is cheap crafting mats that I rapid synth so I can get the luminary tool. And I have 4 luminaries, after that I have absolutely no idea what to spend Gil on. I already have a huge house fund attached away, and that's after donating a mil to my FC

Q: "How much money is enough?"
A: "Just a little bit more!"
The ONLY effective way for them to combat RMT is to have very active and punitive GM's dedicated for it. Any rule or method they put in place will only end up hurting players, and RMT will circumvent and abuse something else. Its a lose lose situation for us and we're feeling it now.
With that said, I continue to hoard all the gil I can in case it has a use beyond housing eventually.

But this is the catch, look at other MMO's with a gear crafting system, the crafting gear is usually used to help push people in the raids, and then the raids are where you get the next gear set. The crafted gear helps you get into coil, you couldn't get into coil using the ak/wp drops before, you needed either darklight or crafted to go run coil to get the upgrade.
Now with the increase in myth tomes, and the increase in philo tomes, and a new raid with i80 gear.. Just assuming you doil CT once a week AND get a drop, you can walk away each week with 1 i80 item, 1 i90 item (myth tomes) and 2 i70 items... That right there is the reason the crafted gear is no longer needed, and this still follows how other mmo's do it. The crafted gear is usually 2 or 3 item levels below the raid gear and it is there to help people get into the raids instead of farming the dungeons for drops.
Now when they bring out a higher level of gear, let's just say there will be new recipes and gear in 2.2...this is just an assumption.
If they bring out item level 100 in the next raid.. crafted gear is still not needed even if they create an i90 crafted set, and the reason for this is because most players will already be IN i90 gear for 2.2. So instead they need to bring out the raid gear as i110? Still no usefor crafted gear, and again the reason is everyone will still be in mostly i90 or fully i90 gear which will allow them to do the next raid.
So solution, again assuming for craftable gear purposes and to make them valid. They will need to bring out 3 new dungeons of i100 gear (higher than coil to make upgrades wanted/needed) craftable gear of item level 105 or 110, and new raid gear of item level 120 and 130. So now what happens, the new raids you will need to upgrade your i90 gear before going into them so we will have a choice, either dungeon grind for the i100 whcih will let us run new raid, or get craftable gear of i105/110 which will help make things easier for raid so that we can get our new i120/130 gear.
There wasn't a higher level gear set brought out in 2.1 (they actually brought out a lower set) and they made it easier to get the high end gear (again technically you don't even need to do coil and can be i90 which is a mistake), so to fix it, the next gear set needs a big jump and add the proper leveled gear in between, if they just bring out coil part 2 and make it i100, there will be no reason to make crafting gear.

This is correct, and the way their system is set-up, you either a) have to add the rmt trader to your friend's list to find out who it is (in which they could then follow the gil back to who ever is considered the main banks and cut them off there. or b) trade person to person, which again they just need to follow it back the logs of how this person got this gil and ban each account in between. The ONLY effective way for them to combat RMT is to have very active and punitive GM's dedicated for it. Any rule or method they put in place will only end up hurting players, and RMT will circumvent and abuse something else. Its a lose lose situation for us and we're feeling it now.

Now doing those methods you will probably get a hacked account and ban/lock them out, but then your customer service department needs to accept those phone calls, work with the person to reverify the account and give the correct customer back their account, but you still banned maybe 50 accounts all leading to that one technical bank toon.
You also need to have multiple GM's logged onto the game to handle issues, whether it's player issues or RMT issues.
FF11 they actually had players, real players become GM's to help them combat RMT issues and other complaints. WoW has real players doing this too.
If you have all classes you should also be doing your own repairs (I do when possible). I store gil for housing, but yeah it's so out of reach that's almost pointless. I buy materials for levelling crafts. I pay in gil for art commissions, but that's sure something way out of the game itself.
I agree on giving us better crafter gear, an option for rich non raiders to spend money on, and for crafters to gain more. Vanya etc are supercheap now, too...

the only useful meaningful use for monies atm would be buying certain runs such as titan ex? oh and pls no speculate personal housing after seeing all those fc housing prices
