it very well could it creates doubt in se fan base, the post on zam alone shows that if isnt known to you already, come on now not trying be mean but it kinda common sense. do i think it will kill ffxiv hell no, but sure isnt going help it.
It just won't matter in the long run. The only possible, yet still unreasonable, someone could conclude this is somehow a bad thing for FFXIV, is that somehow they're diverting resources FROM FFXIV elsewhere. This just isn't the case.

That said, I'm well aware of doubts this may have given some players, most of which are not completely informed on the issue, as this is the only way one could come to this conclusion.

My point is, SE will not likely make business decisions in favor or against one of their main titles based on this, nor should they.
