The idea is nice, but the implication of requiring a target to attack, in melee, to keep up healing on other players? i doubt if that would happen as a dedicated healer. Perhaps this would be purposeful as a tank, and only used on the DRK himself. I can only see it as a cooldown used during high damage phases to help out. Healing other players via attacking, especially via melee? incredibly awkward without another way to heal, when melee is unaccessible. Not for a DRK feel, I don't think. sorry. Maybe you are thinking of a blood mage...
I don't always pug, but when i do, it's with Pretty Ugly Guys

Okay, if the DRK does become a tank, what class would it come from? I thought most classes were getting two different roles, so we would have to pick a class that isn't a tank already, in melee. Guess that leaves Dragoon. The idea is nice, but the implication of requiring a target to attack, in melee, to keep up healing on other players? i doubt if that would happen as a dedicated healer. Thanks for the link, very interesting. Didn't think the programers would go THAT far in consideration to mod a class to shoe-horn a job in. I would actually be happy if DRK wasn't tied to Marauder as I do like WAR as a tank. However I still have my doubts.Once again, SCH/SMN proves this wrong. Theoretically, any class can branch off to a job outside of the class' role. This has already happened once! Therefore, it is completely possible for a Dark Knight to branch off of Gladiator. In fact, Yoshi-P seems to have this habit of mentioning that Dark Knight could branch off of Gladiator every time he mentions the Job(although he has never confirmed that this is the way it will actually happen).
In the interview linked here is one such example of Yoshi-P doing this: http://www.secrets-eorzea.com/en/new...rets-of-eorzea
Yoshida: I see what you mean. We created the system, but we do not necessarily need to follow it all the time. For example, let’s say that the Dark Knight is the second Gladiator job (attention, it is still not a confirmation), when you get its job stone at level 30, all acquired Gladiator skills will certainly be modified to better fit the image of the Dark Knight.
It was just to give an example to explain that we are not going to destroy how players consider different classes / jobs. It could be an interesting way to introduce future classes / jobs. We will consider your concerns on this issue, rest assured.
This should make things more interesting, don't you think?

So, this shows that the team is probably at least weighing it as an option. Oh, and they wouldn't be afraid to change nearly all of GLD's skills to accommodate this!
I can imagine GLD, but switching the shield for another sword. Other possibility is a LNC, and using a scythe at lvl 30. one has good tank setup, the other has a good life steal setup

If this was brought up about the DRK I apologize. I'm a few mins from leaving for work and I haven't read the entire thread.
Like some I want to see the drk because I played one back in 11. An Elvaan drk popping soul eater+guillotine /kefka laugh
One Idea I had that would be a drastic change for drk slightly. I'm a smn main and I like the idea that, unlike others, my class can change what is our role in a party. I can be a dps or a healer if I wanted.
"What if" we make drk a job for thm. Hear me out. You would have a dps that can choose to be a ranged caster or a bad ass melee. As for the lore the two almost coincide. I still don't know how we would make all the thm abilitys mix with a melee. Unlike arcanist/sch/smn it would literally be a different set of abilitys but drks were melees with slight magic in 11. Never used nuke spells back then but I did drain stats+tp and abused stun :P

One thing I also don't get about this thread as a whole is that hardly anybody seems to be taking a Dark Knight with a shield seriously.
Call us FFIV fanboys and girls if you will, but can it really be coincidence that the Paladin AF Armor has shades of Cecil in it and the Dragoon AF Armor is so Kain that it hurts? I seriously think that there's a deliberate callback to FFIV with these two jobs in particular, and that there may be a high chance that Gladiator will be used to host Dark Knight solely because of the FFIV-esque duality between Paladin and Dark Knight. Since Cecil wielded a sword and a shield in both of these jobs, I doubt that a Dark Knight that branches from Gladiator would change the primary weapon of the class.
Besides, a class/job is defined by their primary weapon! How can we even know if it's possible for the Armoury System to support a class and one of its jobs having a different primary weapon? The only change that seems possible from what we know right now is to change the shield and just the shield to something else. Additionally, there can also easily be Gladiator's Primary Weapons that can only be equipped by a Dark Knight. The Relics already do this sort of restricting.
I don't think it's that hard to work around with it. They can simply design it to the way that when you equip a weapon that can be used for both drk and pld, there will be another option you can choose upon equiping it, say "You are about to equip this weapon, choose your Job/Class: drk, pld, gla" and if it's a hot key that you want to make for job change, they can simply make it to bypass that option for the corresponding job hot key.Besides, a class/job is defined by their primary weapon! This isn't what I mean at all. For example, SMN/SCH have plenty of books that can be freely equipped by both of them regardless of their slant toward healing or dps'ing. What I mean is this scenario:
GLD -> PLD uses a one handed sword as its primary weapon. DRK could do the same, and they would have set of swords fitted to their particular role while also being able to equip some of a PLD's swords.
However, what if they just completely change DRK's weapon? Instead of a one handed sword, they run around with a two handed Greatsword as their primary weapon? Can the Armory system be worked with such that a DRK can do this, yet still be recognized as a Job branching from GLD?
