He's not actually dead because of the power of the Heartstrike dagger, he's in a frozen death-like state. That's why Greinfarr wants to steal the dagger from Lord Lolorito (whom Nielle originally stole it from in 1.0 to try and use on Warburton), he thinks if he uses the dagger on Nielle again that he will finally be dead.

As for those who'd like a quick (small? brief?) summary of the Ul'dah storyline check: Ul'dah storyline and Minfilia is actually Ascilia. (good reads for those interested in how we worked back in the "old days" with our theories and Ferne finally helping us along).

I'd redo it all if I had time but sadly I don't . Anyways At least now 1 question has been answered:
[q]Why was Warburton in Ul'dah? [a]He was a spy who had knowledge of the 'true threat' that faced Eorzea, the Primals. He also had knowledge of Ala Mhigo and the Garlean occupation.

Now for me this answers 1 question but raises more. Corguevais said his mission was the same as Warburton's, but his actions truly were questionable. If he was there in Ul'dah to relay information then why was he performing in a parade for a festival instead of meeting with leaders of Ul'dah and giving them the information. Now having said that, I can bring up a quote that Greinfarr says about Corguevais' clothes and that he said he had seen Imperials garbed the same. So now my theory aligns with Corguevais being a Garlean spy...after all he thought Warburton was a Garlean spy as well, but we now know he was a double agent. But this doesn't explain why Corguevais fled from Ul'dah with Ascilia and the Horn or really the overall significance of said Horn. If he wasn't a Garlean spy then he shouldn't have had too much to fear.

Nor does any of THIS shed light into who stabbed Niellefresne (or why, most likely was a hired hand of Lord Lolorito, Alacran beginnings maybe?) and why was Nielle shocked when he opened the sarcophagus, which supposedly held Warburton's body...the shock which has led myself and others to believe that it could only mean Warburton is not in it or someone else is in his place (which is sorta the same thing lol). If Warburton's body was indeed in it then why would Nielle be shocked? It would have to be either it was empty or it may have been Corguvais' body. Ugh so many questions still. F'lahminn is still alive at least so that's good and
Greinfarr is involved in the Blacksmith questline.
So I can only hope things will slowly be unraveled.

Corguevais was mistaken, as far as I can tell. Coruevais was a Garlean spy stationed in Ul'dah, or so the quest's hints would have us believe. He can use magick, so perhaps he was once of Othard or Ala Mhigo? Anyway, the alleged Garlean spy just happened to be manning the Goobbue when Nielle pulled his "Let's be heroes!" stunt and freed it, killing Warburton. Warburton was a double agent, but as far as Corguevais knew, they were allies on the side of Garlemald. This is why he says they have the same mission, I think.

Corguevais later found out the power of the horn that broke the spell and used it against the people who so casually blew his cover with it, expecting to take his ally's daughter back to safety. The thing is - what did the imperials know at that time? Ascilia and Corguevais both act shocked that the Ul'dahns would fear the Empire with a much larger threat on their doorstep. I assumed they meant ascians and that it was somehow connected to the horn, but the Realm Awoken quests make it sound like they were simply referring to the primals. Any thoughts?

My guess was that Warburton had been resurrected already and stabbed Nielle in revenge...but who knows! Perhaps Ascilia was so terrified because her resurrected father had been Dark Crystalled? Well, that's pretty deep into the fringe... Any new developments on your end?

that Greinfarr was actually dead - killed in battle with the Wood Wailers in the Black Shroud when he fled Ul'dah for Gridania with the Hellfire Phoenix after throwing a match at the Colosseum backfired on them.

Of course the last thing the player sees (through the Echo) is Greinfarr shouting and charging the Wood Wailers with his sword drawn, before the Echo scene ends abruptly, which leaves things deliberately ambiguous in hindsight, but the context of the scene and the comments made by the Hellfire Phoenix afterwards, basically all but screamed he was dead, saying that 'Greinfarr gave his life for her and that she intended to honour his sacrifice by turning her back on the arena and instead joining the Wood Wailers.

But then I guess as Hildibrand has shown, there pretty much is no such word as a 'dead' character in ARR - 'put on a bus' maybe, but not killed off for good.

One of the things I pointed out in my earlier post was that Corguevais wears 2 different types of robe/tunic (as far as I know, no other character "changed" clothes). The funny thing is the robe he's wearing during the Parade is the robe that Greinfarr acknowledges as Imperial in nature...wouldn't there be some kind of oversight of "uh this Elezen Thaumaturge is wearing a Garlean outfit, should he really be in charge of controlling a Goobbue?" The robe itself is very basic and would be something we wore at lvl 10 (very poor like an Ala Mhigan refuge would have wore) while the purple and black robe which he wears inside the Thaumaturge guild and I believe when he meets with Ascilia by Warburton's bed side (been so long) is more "rich" and would seem more Garlean or higherborn or some kind of wear that denotes his status within the Thaumaturge community. Robe changes but the wand stays the same. To me this is a huge hangup and just screams for more attention and questioning, it's not that he changed his clothes from the beginning to when he was fleeing from Ul'dah because they change from one cutscene to the next.

Back to the Horn, still know very little about these icons...the Limsa is indeed special as you know while the Ul'dah one seems to just enrage monsters. If the Horn that the Mammet blew was the same Horn Corguevais obtained, then perhaps it was in Nielle's possession and originally used for their plan and then cast aside when said plan failed but then how does Corguevais go about obtaining it.

Anyways back to the point I think the easy answer is that Corguevais was a Garlean spy (who knew Warburton prior and that he was a spy also) so he's in Ul'dah under the guise as a Thaumaturge..to obtain his role in the Parade I assume he had been in Ul'dah for some time prior to these events, worked his way up the ladder a little and was given the role. After all things would have gone smooth if not for Nielle's ambition. Having been blamed for the incident Corguevais knows that he will be exiled from Ul'dah, which is why he's in Camp Black Brush when Ascilia is "attacked by a large beast," having left Ala Mhigo many years prior to this he may have known Ascilia as a baby and not the girl she had become. Upon hearing the name Warburton he knows his friend (or at least associate) is in town and things are getting more serious. Now strolls in Thancred who at the Platinum Mirage confronts Nielle about his actions and the Garleans, while unbeknownst to him there's a spy next to him listening to every word. Spy or not Corguevais could not stop the exile if he wanted so in a last ditch effort he tries to kidnap Ascilia using his new knowledge of the Parade event to sway her to him. But Nielle, Greinfarr, and F'lhaminn catch up to him (he was driving a chocobo caravan after all) and he has to ditch her and flee. Ultimately F'lhaminn some how helps Ascilia and adopts her (where she eventually changes her name to Minfilia and has her Echo awakened or maybe merely strengthened as she may have had it prior to coming to Ul'dah). But then another question pops, Corguevais is fleeing to Mor Dhona and not through the Black Shroud back to Ala Mhigo...when we arrive back to Ul'dah (from these Echos) we talk to (at the time) Ruruaji and we have another Echo seeing the Lalafell Miner Twins arrive back, wipe off their hands and tell Ruruaji they "took care" of Corguevais...so to me this means they caught him on their single chocobos and killed him/pushed him off into the ravines (remember the way to Blue Fog?). Now if they "took care" of Corguevais or if he escaped, I don't see Corguevais' corpse being in Warburton's coffin (still could be) so who could it be.

If Warburton was resurrected and sent by Lord Lolorito to kill Nielle then maybe Warburton is STILL "alive?" Just being used by Lord Lolorito...after all the 2.0 main storyline reveals that Lord Lolorito and the Alacran are given something by the Sultansworn that has the ability to raise the dead, if the Sil'dih can do it why not Ul'dah and the Syndicate's (or part) vast wealth. But this is 2.0 and we're talking about 1.0...but Mumapo of the Thaumaturge guild does tell Nielle that he would need charts? I believe to raise Warburton so they could ask him questions. When he leaves Nielle is attacked. If this is Zombie-Warburton then the knowledge or the item needed was already present and not in direct control of the Sultansworn/Sultana. But as you said Moose, Ascilia was very scared during that Echo and what else could possibly scare her more than seeing someone be stabbed but seeing her father as the culprit and then walking out as if nothing had happened. Very interesting.

Yes ma'am, I was very excited to see this. Tie Greinfarr's leaving the Gladiator guild to pursuit his goal of saving Nielle with the rise of Aldis and Leavold and their connection with the current first sword Mylla. Things become a bit more fleshed out. Greinfarr possessed Frenzy first after all, before it was given to Aldis. Aldis leaves Ul'dah in 1570 which gives him a good 7/8 years to have his relationship with Leavold and Mylla if he takes control of Frenzy shortly after Greinfarr's actions. During all this Lord Lolorito becomes stronger and obtains more influence and eventually influences Leavold who forms the Alacran.

    Ul'dah has a great storyline.
