I am mostly interested in the hardware specs of this system.. still waiting for them though.

Same. To be honest, I'm not expecting anything spectacular: stronger than the Wii, still weaker than the 360 and PS3, still no online service, still won't play DVDs. The best third-party attempt at trying to win over the hardcore market will be an on-rails shooter that nobody wants to play, serious development will cease, and the only games worth playing on the system will be first-party titles. Again.

Wow really?.....
It was already said that the system would be as strong if not alittle stronger then the PS3 and 360 (did you not see Ninja Gaiden 3?)
Why does it need to play DVDs? I am buying a game system not a DVD palyer, I have a 360 and a PS3 that can play DVDs..... I dont need a third one.
No hardcore games........ did you watch E3?

It's impossible to make that judgment without the specs for the system, which they've been quiet about thusfar. As you can probably tell from the tone of my post, I'm not too hopeful. Considering that their plans for storage are SD and USB (which are god-awfully slow compared to the SATA drives that the other two consoles are using), I'm even less hopeful.
In addition to that, they haven't said a word about online support, something which is obviously a big deal to many people.
I don't actually care about DVD playback. I was just poking fun.Why does it need to play DVDs? I am buying a game system not a DVD palyer, I have a 360 and a PS3 that can play DVDs..... I dont need a third one.
Where'd I say there'd be no hardcore games? I implied that their best attempt is going to be something shitty, and support for the console will eventually be dropped in favor of the other two consoles, which have already proven themselves at better supporting a hardcore base than Nintendo has.No hardcore games........ did you watch E3?

USB 2.0 will give transfer speeds of about 35MB/s. So I doubt the games will be slowed down to a lot let alone a visible level, same for SD cards.. they're about the speed of a laptop drive. It's impossible to make that judgment without the specs for the system, which they've been quiet about thusfar. 35MB/s is nothing, especially when you compare it to the 192MB/s that a SATA 1.0 drive (which the other two systems are using, if I'm not mistaken) is capable of--that's, what, 5.5 times as fast? What makes the speed issue such a huge concern for me is that, assuming Nintendo offers serious online and DLC support, the Wii U is likely to be the worst console for both because the low read/write speeds of the supported storage formats are going to translate into longer loading times, and it'll get even worse if large amounts of patch data are involved.

Honestly playing from a USB drive and SD makes no difference trust me. The 192MB speed of sata means nothing at all. I used to play WOW from a WD USB drive and i didn't see any difference from when i was playing at home directly from my SATA hdd.... none at all. As per the download content... you forget the your internet speed will never download at 32MB/sec so the difference in speed between usb hdd and SATA in that scenario does not matter.35MB/s is nothing, especially when you compare it to the 192MB/s that a SATA 1.0 drive (which the other two systems are using, if I'm not mistaken) is capable of--that's, what, 5.5 times as fast?
