1) I do not like botters, I do not think it is fair, and I do not agree with their view on that they should do it until they get caught.

2) Botters are in EVERY MMoRPG out there. This problem is definately not unique to FFXIV, or even to SE, it is a worldwide issue, and one of the reasons Chinese internet is being further and further scrutinised daily (just referring to RMT botters here, not domestic).

3) Botting programs are freely available, all you need to do is Google FFXIV bot and you see a very popular one in the first link return. Would I use it myself? No, because I don't trust third party software other than some of the more popular WoW addons, and the FFXI Windower (because I have enough PC knowledge to pull that program apart and poke around inside it). Do I think it is unethical? Sort of yes, but if there were no risks involved, I would probably do it for a few things here and there, but only if I was still in the area of my PC while it was running, for example if I want to watch a movie or have a shower. I don't see much of a problem there, but to reiterate, I don't do it, because I like my account clean and tidy, and not banned, and am also very well aware of how they catch them, and it really doesn't have anything to do with what they are doing ingame.

4) I have some pretty out there opinions on botting myself, due to what I currently do for a living. I see them daily, and work very hard to fight against them, but to see so many people mindlessly whining about their opinion on how they are handled is so disconcerting. You really do have no idea how much work goes into tracking and actioning these things. It is immense. I apologise if I have been a little snarky or rude in previous posts, but being right in the centre of this kind of behaviour, it annoys me to see so many people thinking they know how it all works, and their "off the front of their brain" ideas are the fix, and should be done now. They aren't. Most ideas have been tried, and they don't work, as the RMT very quickly circumvent them.

I hope this explains a little more about my stand point on botting as it is.

Now, to explain a little further about my opinions on some of the posts:

It is great that you want to stop botting, it's fantastic in fact, but don't kid yourselves that you are doing it for the greater good. Already judging by the previous posts, people are standing in known botter locations and killing them, and getting a rise out of it, therefore, you are doing it for self satisfaction, as you very well know that the 20 minutes you spend MPKing them, isn't even going to make a mark on their 24/7 schedule. It doesn't even hinder them. No police officer should ever enjoy using the nightstick, no guard should ever enjoy using their pepper spray, and if they do, they shouldn't be in that position.

I am not a botting sympathiser, but in the same respect, I do not condone renegade justice, as for all you know, you could be wrong, and some poor child is sitting the other side of the screen, with no idea what to do about this guy killing him over and over. It is unlikely, yes, but not outside of the realms of possibility.

If you are so bored with the game that you have become this little self professed super hero, then you should move on to something else.

Please make sure to read the entire post before misquoting it.

Thank you.
Peregrine doesn't need to try to belittle your name, you do a fine enough job with that on your own. Don't worry, guy. We are all just unintelligent bot lynchers and you're the almighty knowledge center. Call us white knights while you stand on your soapbox and preach.

All I can say truthfully is I want to help, but have no other ways of doing so other than making suggestions, reporting, and pointing out how nothing appears to get done with this subject. I don't go out and try to get bots killed. I do watch them sometimes so I can make more detailed reports, but that's about as far into it as I go.

You have no right to sit there and try to belittle everyone in this thread that has said anything negative about botting. You will defend their right to bot, but say no word in defense for those who choose not to. You say you don't like it, you say it's good that we want it to end, but instead of being reasonable and informative, you rather call people who don't bot stupid and naive. You are not helpful. We could have all gone with not reading a single post you ever made and felt the same or known just as much as we do now.

I may not know everything that goes on behind the scenes, but that doesn't mean I can't guess at how elaborate a system it could be. I never assumed that absolutely nothing was happening to track these bots and such, all I ever said was how it's been months since bots showed up on the scene, and I am still seeing the same ones. People have told me bot programs were available at launch of the game...how can we, who care about this game and it's future, not care about the rising trend of botting amongst the population?

Just because botting is a plague amongst the majority of MMOs doesn't make it any less okay to be happening on the game we are playing now. I'm not in this for self-gratification. I literally want fairest environment possible for myself, my friends, and other players to play in. Sorry, if this isn't a good enough reason for you, but if people didn't wish for things to change, and show that it matters to them, things may not. There is little more I can do but report and discuss, and yet you'd rather those privileges taken away from me whilst you name-call and antagonize.

Attempt to crucify me if you wish, but whatever your occupation is it doesn't make you all-knowing behind the way SE is handling this problem for FFXIV. All you are proving is how many creative (or lack there of) ways you can make fun of the people that care.

I want legitimate players. I want a fair environment for those players. The bots have already caused serious damage to the game and if nothing is done about them before a cap raise/expansion/subscription comes into play we are all going to have a miserable time trying to play. Bots effect everyone whether they are aware of it or not. Sitting idly by, defending botters rights to bot, and ridiculing those who want to help (but can do little) will never help anything.
