Definitely, XIV's combat lacks something. Maybe it's action, maybe it's tactics. But having success determined entirely by your stats is so... well... so "mommy-please-wash-my-35-year-old-back-armchair-general" like. For people who love to hide behind their superior stats, accumulated in countless hours of wasted lifetime.

At least give us reaction and tactics elements. Something where you actually have to use your brain. Something that transcends stroking your virtual Ridil until it becomes +1.
Perhaps it's important to note that we still use Horse drawn carriages/wagons despite having cars and trains.

Everything has their use and just because one games runs quicker/slower or requires a different form of gameplay does not make it better or worse than any other. No matter what negative stereotypes you associate with its players.

No, its not the stats that allow you to go afk in combat. That most likely pertains to the battle system. Before you go haywire and say that Auto-Attack is the cause, thats not really the matter either. Its how they implement it, not what they implement.

Well, auto-attack is spawned from the mentality that combat should be purley about adjusting HP bars, enmity calculators, and managing DPS.

Zelda is by nintendo's deffinition an RPG. There is questing, which is a bigger pie of the rpg. Not just the battle system. I've been playing rpgs for 20 years And fyi.... final fantasy games has always been a random battle turn based style combat. With little to no questing and exploring with dungeon runner styles. With little to no puzzles. Most of the zones have been tiny path halls with a boss room at the end. Kinda funny ppl complained about ff13.... but it is set up how ff7 was.

It's the definition of ideas/rants that only sound good until it leaves the mouth.

It's great to have God of War like excitement, but no one can make it last anymore more then a 8hr game with 3 years of hard development.

Gameplay that last for hundreds of hours are always reduced to a grind of stats. Anything else is simple gimmick.

The opposite of stat based combat is reaction based combat. And reaction based combat is a simple pattern memorization and motor reflexes. The definition of 3 minute performance jokes.

One I know to flip the giant crab over to hit its weak point for massive damage...it's just an internet meme joke

Nintendo's definition of an RPG are the Mother, Pokemon and Golden Sun series. Their SRPGs are the Wars series and Fire Emblem series.

Oh, and Mario from time to time. Zalda was an action RPG at one point, but that was abandoned a long time ago.

For all that I know, if it has different characters, 1+ cities, antagonists, Story and Lore, then it's an RPG by 87%.
Battle styles, skills and armory goes into a 10% of it.
