Yeah, noticed this while running my marauder to hit 15...nobody really coordinated like an actual group, and a lot of button mashing happened. Seems like you just can't learn everything without playing in groups-only situations lol. Actually thought to get Flash for my lancer setup while running Tam-Tara after running it once and realizing gladiators have a bit of trouble w/ mage enemies, which spurred me to go look @ the guides. xD

The the reward rank system is based almost entirely on enmity generation. And who generates enmity better than a Tank job. Flash --> Flash --> Flash --> Flash --> Flash --> AFK 30 seconds --> Gold Medal Item Get! Healer's have it good as well as long as their party tags various monsters and they use a simple AoE heal constantly.

It was like that at release, but they changed it a few patches in so that there were more factors. I'm not entirely sure what they are, but I know that, while I used to be able to get gold while solo by spamming Overpower a few times, it requires a lot more than that now. I *think* that they did something where damage, enmity, healing, killing blows, and initial tags are all factored in somehow; I'm not entirely sure, but I do know that it's not just based upon enmity generated any more.

No, fates will now scale in difficulty depending on how many people are there. Probably because a lot less people will be doing fates due to having other, more profitable options for xp.

OP, why do you tell new tanks about aggro? The game has enmity not aggro.

Aggro is a term that generally refers to being targeted by an enemy. Enmity refers to the attribute generated to determine who has aggro.

Nice to know. I rarely seriously try to troll but the game really does use enmity so I was just messing around. It still would help someone completely new to talk about enmity because the game uses enmity in the tooltips. Obviously if you want to get serious, there are differences between the terms as you pointed out. But generally, anyone that knows what both terms mean can swap them and it doesn't make much difference. The main point of enmity/aggro discussion is you have to make sure the enemies always stay focused on you as a tank unless some tactic requires otherwise.

Well, yes an no. We all know that enmity = aggro = hate = threat (more or less). If the lead person on the enmity scale is *not* the person who has aggro, then why I wonder is there an 'A' on the game's built-in threat meter for that person?

Similarly, I've heard FF purists say it must be DD for damage dealers, not DPS. Yet in this very official forum, there's a 'DPS Roles' board.

I do agree with the horror of the word 'toon' however.

One more thing, to add to this thread. I've run into people at cap in DF who not only seem to have no idea how to play their job, but are running with mid-level armour. In creeping horror I realized they were probably just out of the FATE grind and never even bothered to go through their job quests to get their AF armour set ... which means that they were lacking skills as well. Maybe they just raced to top with their second toon and forgot all about quests.

Oops, did I say 'toon'? hehe... well, for them it probably is an apt term.
