Exactly. It's called real estate. If a lot's not available just wait, one will come available. All the pizzazz of this "new feature" will pass over, people will end up not caring about housing any more than they cared about guild housing in Guild Wars or Rift . . . and there will be PLENTY of real estate for those who still think they want to play the Sims in an MMO

Honestly I don't even think the richest players will be buying a house right away. Even if you have a billion gil, if you're on a more expensive server this is a HUGE hit if you want to buy the best house.

Housing is not super limited- there can only be as many houses as there are free companies in this patch, so its not like one person can buy up all the housing even if they have unlimited funds.

The fact that housing has MANUALLY added INSTANCED housing should be an indication.

I played Asheron's call in 2000 which had an abundance of open world housing.

Oh god stuff like this makes my brain hurt and it is the reason why devs these days believe they need to make sure everyone can obtain everything easily. Nothing is stopping you from attaining what you want if it is inherently a difficult challenge in one way or another. A large financial barrier means as Yoshi P. says, work together and take the time to earn what you seek. Everyone doesn't need to be on equal footing. This is not FFXIV - Communism.

What you want and how you want it is not necessarily what is best overall.

I bet the claimed FC houses will be sold on the Housing Market as Used Property and their price will be extremely cheap because you're buy a used property.

Just like buying a used car rather than buying a new expensive car that is just released this year.

It's stupid for a developer to spend money creating content that will not be utilized. That's simply wasted money. They would have been better off just not adding it and instead spending the money on upgrading their servers and adding more mid-game and end-game content.

Only so many plots of land exist in each instance. Only so many instances currently exist.

If housing were priced in a manner that every FC could afford it the entire system would get swamped, as soon as enough FC's hit the next rank there would be a rush on the zones with plots of land being snatched up before you could blink and every instance would end up packed with no room to spare for those that got in late.

The prices now may suck but they accomplish a purpose, they control the flow of plots being immediately purchased. You either have to work hard and save up for it or bite the bullet and pay the price before it starts to depreciate. The plots sell slowly to those that show the most dedication to accessing the feature rather than being snatched up by every two bit FC that happened to get its members on sooner than everyone else.

Have at it guys, my FC will not be purchasing any land, even though we have the gil. The return is simply not worth the cost. Thats one more open plot on Leviathan for you all to enjoy

We find that spending the gil on new recruits / alt jobs is much more worthwhile investment than 8-10 million gil on a studio apartment :P
