Players come and players go, the genre is hardly dead, people just expect/want too much from fresh MMO's these days because they compare them to the years of accumulated content from the big names.

If you think we just had a nice conversation, I was probably being sarcastic
It's 2013, games are now supposed to launch with enough content to compete with MMOs that have been on the market for 10 years, that's the way games evolve. By 2020 every MMO that doesn't launch with 45 years worth of content will be DOA.
WoW will have housing in the new expansion Warlords of Draenor, it's only called Garrisons
The issue is this game isn't in its first year. The game launched in 2010 and was god awful then, its improved since then but the way development is going i'm not going to just bite the pillow and wait it out any longer. I have been playing since launch so where is the "no more crap taken" line supposed to be drawn? 3 years? 5 years?
Its also not just about the housing prices, its the fact that we are receiving nothing but backwards content this patch, They aren't improving crafting to where its actually useful and have no plans to, the armory system is basically useless due to the fact that you are restricted in the number of myths you can get and now with the fact that you can receive one drop a week from any of the new content, and finally the fact that legacy players... players who have been supporting this train wreck for 2 years, are being screwed.
WoW and FFXI did tons of crap I didn't care for and I still played because I liked the overall games. Overall gameplay beats some new shiny any day. The patch ain't even out yet and people are screaming doom. Maybe I'm giving squeenix too much credit here, but if things are too unobtainable for everyone, I'm sure they'll adjust.
Ahh, good catches. I was actually reading it as box sales, which I would have trouble believing, but for sheer profitability, it definitely makes sense.I dont think FFXI is one of the longest running MMOs ever. It's been going for a while, but some other games (the realm online which launched in 1996) have been going much longer. Regarding profitability, FFXI is the most profitable Final Fantasy game to date, per former CEO Yoichi Wada:
"...Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada heralded Final Fantasy XI as the most profitable of all past Final Fantasy games..."

I agree. They had them in ffxi after a point iirc so unless they decided it was too much after all the server issues or didn't think about it we will never know.
People forget though that only this version is new. FFXIV existed for 2 years in another form.

There are plenty of ppl who haven't done coil yet who will look at CT as a welcome in-between on gear instead of doing what we did and hop into coil with darklight. They'll farm for gear that's in-between darklight and allagan which is what SE originally intended us to enter coil with. Plus I bet there will be some of us who will do CT anyway because it's something new.
Not only that but Yoshi-p did say in the live letter before this one that if you already had iLvl 90 gear you could farm for vanity if you so chose or gear alt jobs til you could gear in allagan.

There are a lot of people out there like me who take thier sweet time to do anything, I'm still in mostly AF gear right now, so I have a lot to look foward to and I know I'm far from being alone in this.
Because the only reason everyone plays FFXIV is because of the housing right?
You can't enjoy this game without an FC house clearly...
I mean, we haven't been doing that fine up until now.... Right?
