When i think about Fishing up treasure maps it reminds me of this annoyance from FFXI

I wish fishing had some ways to make money. Shark Oil HQ is worth 2k each on my server at most. It just doesn't motivate me to get fish.

I feel bad for those fishers who got the luminary rod the long, hard way now. They are making it much, much, much easier to get for 2.1, and I'll actually already be eligible for it once the patch drops. I kinda want to put in the hours and try and earn it with the current requirements in the next couple days so I can say I got it the hard way once every fisher in Eorzea has one. I've been working hard for it for a while now and it just seems silly to suddenly be handed it when I thought I was only halfway there.

Ah well, it's a good/bad thing I guess, since it now is actually comparable to the other gathering classes achievements. You catch fish at a ~4x slower rate than node-gathering, so I guess it makes sense that the fishing achievements should be 1/4 what they are for mining and botany.

Hey SE. I spent seven weeks getting my Luminary in 1.0. Not only was it insulting that the Halcyon rod, with identical stats, is just given to us with no fuss at all, but now you're making it even less difficult to get? Can I have some compensation or, like, make my rod a Luminary +1 or something?

It is, like all luminary items before an' after any patch, a prestige item. An' because achievements are dated, yers still carries the same amount of "shiny" as it did before the patch, since if anyone so cared, ya could prove it to them that ya hated yerself that much.

I realise that, and I realise it's a move to make fishing more in line with the others, since the others are way more streamlined than their 1.0 counterparts. But that doesn't make it any better to me, and really, it's an indication of the long term plans. I don't think things will ever get better for fishers or gatherers or even crafters. This is a fighter's game now. We have no place in it.
I've cancelled my auto-renewal on my sub. As much as I loved this game, it was 1.23 I loved. I loved that in 1.0 I didn't HAVE to play as a fighting class if I didn't want. In 2.0 I was 100% behind making us get a fighting class to 10 to unlock the rest of the game at the very least, because parley was all kinds of balls, so that was okay. But Yoshi continues to sweep us under the rug time and time again, and us fishers are getting the worst of it. I don't think it will ever get better, so I'm out.

If, in a decades time when Yoshi is finally happy with all the WoW kiddies he's managed to capture, he releases "FFXIV 4.3: Gathering Reborn," maybe I'll come back. I hate "I'm quitting and taking my 400 accounts with me!" posts, but this just isn't the game for me anymore. I know Yoshi won't miss me and the game will continue to be successful, because I'm a gatherer, and I'm no longer a part of the playerbase he cares about.

Thanks for the memories. I've never gotten a drop from the frigger shell.

And for treasure hunting... I'm sad to find out they did not include fisherman on it. T_T That's the only DOL i'm into.

Yes they did? they stated you can get maps from it.

You can and I have. It was actually the final item I fished up for my Luminary rod. :P It was 11.3 ilms long. (yes, they really gave the map a length like a regular fish).
