    They're way too long now. I like story and cutscenes as much at the next player, but they are veeeeery long winded. I bet most players may skip them.
    I don't know how many lfd queue pops I've missed die to being stuck in a cutscene. I hurriedly read as fast as I can and still miss it.

    If you've ever actually created any half-decent cutscenes in a game engine before, especially one with unique assets it is not a simple process. It's not as long as creating something along the grandeur of the original 1.0 openings but it certainly isnt fast.

    The time it takes to get the correct timing, positioning, assets, models, mise-en-scene and over-all polishing is not super-fast, even with the front-end of systems like Kismet, it takes a very very long time to make them.

    If it were as simple as [Place camera here, move from here to here], shove in a few animations and slap on a music track we'd have much grander cut scenes than we do now, with a design team as fussy as this one even the lower quality cut scenes in 2.0 took a substantial amount of time to create.

    I've used the correct terminology here, I don't see the problem. Would you prefer if I'd said "CUTSCENES WERE LIKE SO BAD IN 2.0 DUDE, 1.0 4LYFE "
    It's only my personal opinion /shrug.

    In comparison to the cutscenes in 2.0, they were for the most part better designed in appearance and style (See above).

    Something I'm really not taking from 2.0, that 1.0 was easily capable of, was the darker atmosphere. Yeah, the main story of 2.0 has moments of death and such, but it's not done in the same way. ARR usually has a specific target towards what is being the cause of death. You can always point a finger at something. 1.0 did enough to give the impression that it's not just this "something", nor is it just the people, it's the entire world.

    Final Fantasy games are looked at for their story (among other things). It is an RPG afterall. It doesn't matter if it's traditional turn-based gameplay with a world map, real time, grid-style, or a third-person MMORPG. It's Final Fantasy. While ARR does well enough as is for it to feel like a Final Fantasy, it's important to always remember that's what it is (in other words, they can't slack off on this just because it's an MMORPG). If people don't like it, and rather ignore it, they're either ignorant of the series or just barking up the wrong tree. This goes not just for players, but developers too. They're working on an established tradition that really can't afford to lack on whatever strengths the series has. If they can't make good on expectations that are rather exclusive to the series, then the series will simply fall upon mediocre and run-of-the-mill.

    Given their work on fixing 1.0 after the horrible launch, I think it's safe to assume we won't be disappointed on story-telling when they're given the time for it. Then again, I don't know how much change was done to the team once Yoshida took over. And something many people don't fully realize is that in order to fully be immersed, you must interact with the world at large. So while story is a significant part of the FF series, so is the actual interactive world itself. If the world zones are severely limited (in exploration and, to a lesser extent, graphics), it won't feel like it's important enough to remember. It's as though everything works as one to become something whole... hmmm...

    At the very least, the cinematography in the 1.0 cutscenes is far more dynamic, which does lend them are particularly more lively feel.

    The thing about using CT stuff for vanity was just a reason he gave for people who don't need the gear to get it anyway. He's not in any way trying to say they made the gear just for vanity.
    Coil was originally intended to be run with gear obtained from CT. They decided to release coil first to give hardcore players an extra challenge.

    Um, you do understand we're talking about cutscenes... not the Full Motion Video opening that came with ARR. Did you click on any of the links in my opening post? The "giant red moon crashing into the world" was actually also done in 1.0. It was the ending cinematic to the game when the servers were taken offline. I am talking about the ingame cinematics that take place throughout the story.

    Click on this link, sit there and watch, and then find me anything of the sort in 2.0~ Please. Anything that even compares. Nothing of this sort, even in all of Praetorium. Even in Coil. Nothing. The animation, the fluidity, the intensity. Please. To say what you just did, tells me you've seen nothing in 1.0, or simply are arguing just to argue.
