No Love for Casual Hardcore Gamers?

A recurring issue I have had is that features such as storyline, levequests, and even access to the marketplace have been so far unavailable to me because I avoid the game's combat classes due to my unreliable internet connection and my preference to gather and craft within an online game.

Should I be forced to change how I play a game to progress within it, the game itself ceases to be fun. I like the game to be a social experience and have nothing to do with mindless, left-brained combat grinding. I prefer to think with my right-brain, gather materials, and create things for other players to enjoy. Why should the game treat me so differently for not enjoying the combat system?

Even as someone who hates the story aspect, you should grin and bear it for the sake of crafting/gathering. You'll want those leve's that you need a battle class to unlock.

But really, it's just a fact of the game. It's Final Fantasy. Story driven since 1987.

We seem to be failing to communicate. I am not complaining about the game being story driven. I am complaining that I should change my play style in order to even experience the game's story and grind combat, which is something I do not enjoy in the game. A dedicated gatherer/crafter deserves access to the game's story as much as any dedicated combat player. But alas, a dedicated gatherer/crafter is denied!

FF14's main focus is PvE, not PvP, not crafting, not housing, not anything else. Maybe this isn't the game for you. Nonetheless, it only takes about 8 hours to get to level 20 and do the level 20 story quest if you're efficient. Tips for leveling quickly: Be a tank to get fast parties, always do your class quests when a new one is available, do your hunting log (level 9 is probably best time to do first hunting log), do FATEs, do guildhests one time.

I dont mean to make it seem like you are asking for the moon, but how is SE supposed to allow a crafter to experience the story when the story involves a ton of fighting?

If I am understanding what you want, its to experience the whole story without touching a battle class. A story told without a single fight would be rather boring but that might just be me.

I am sorry you feel cheated, but in this case I can't see what could be done that wouldn't involve tearing the game apart and rebuilding it.

    Best of luck to you...

This is exactly why I have avoided the forum community for months. The majority of people who stay with the game are already satisfied with how it works and do nothing but create excuses for the game development team to *never* change anything for the better. You hardcore gamers wouldn't understand the importance of casual gamers in an MMO if the facts landed on your faces and wiggled.

Instead of using your right-brain to come up with unorthodox solutions that can make everyone happily, you selfishly banter about how a game should be entirely about left-brained, boring tasks that involve numbers. I want to be creative in an MMO and progress through an MMO by being creative. It is not anywhere near as hard as you think to alter a game so that under-privileged right-brain thinkers can enjoy the game as much as you.

From now on, replies that are counter-intuitive to my point are considered spam and will be reported as such. I am not here to be shot down by selfish combat gamers who don't give a damn about creative people. I am here to establish a dialogue between people who agree that the game could cater to artists, poets, and other creative thinkers much more than it does now. It seems all the majority of occupants are here to do is argue against the flood of right-brained thinking that is conquering the entire Western world.

The story in FFXIV, like most FF games is basically defeating evil and saving the world and simply put you do not defeat the evil empire by cutting down trees or by weaving a vanya robe. Those activities do support the brave DoW and DoM that are the heroes of the story.

Each class/job in the game gets a storyline but the main scenario is never going to be completed by a DoH or DoL.

That said I would be in favor of more interesting content at all levels for DoH and DoL.

The problem with this is many of us remember the game in 1.0 when a weaver could complete the main scenario and it was lame and un-interesting. This change in 2.0 was for the better.

So you post asking for support and attack anyone who disagrees...

You are acting like a child, refusing to hear anyone else's opinion unless they agree with you. If we are OK with things we must be uncreative dumb leets right?

Well for the record, I am a casual player who enjoys ALL aspects of the game, battle, crafting, and gathering.

You make assumptions about this place, and the people who post here. I'd change the attitude or I can assure you you'll gain little support for your cause.

    Feel free to report that...

Yes, most people are satisfied with the game overall or else we would no longer be here. If they made it so you could complete the main story quest with a battle class, crafting class, or gathering class that would be great as long as they still add sufficient content for players with other interests. FF14's main purpose is PvE. There are things I want from this game that will never happen, I'm just being realistic. I like some PvP and hope it's awesome, but it might be lackluster and disappointing since most of the resources in this game are spent on PvE which is deeply connected with the story. There are many complaints about the game. Some people have lag, crystal tower will have loot lock outs even though it's tier 2 content, coil has weekly lockouts which prevents people from helping friends, RMT is still rampant, duty finder has griefer problems, crafting gear is inefficient and will probably be somewhat pointless except accessories for all of 2.1, I could go on. The game is not perfect. It's main goal is to have people fight through the story that will continue with each patch. SE cannot please everyone. I am pretty upset myself that crystal tower gear will get locked, but I haven't completely ignored people that like the lockout and decided that their ideas are meaningless. You asked a question. You got some responses that you disagree with. However, it seems you aren't accepting the answers because they aren't what you want even though they have some truth.

I'm sorry, but if you want a game where you can experience a story and gain progress without a combat class, there are many, MANY other games of the sandbox and casual variety that you could be focusing your attention on right now. Asking the development team to include this aspect that probably caters to such a minority of the playerbase that is here to kill monsters and get loot well... you're wasting your time and your energy. The rabid counter-offensive to anyone who pipes up with a dissenting opinion in the thread only serves to paint you as a troll baiting for arguments and nothing more.
